ok so after i swapped the ej20g with a 93 harness, im getting a CEL.
since putting the 93 harness in (which is obdI) i have no way of checking
what the CEL is.

any hints.

this is kirils old motor. he says he had it running with 0 CEL's.
it runs fine i am just getting sick of seeing this light.

Remember the clips under the steering column that were plugged in making it so you couldn't start the car? They should be black for that year, in other years they were green. Those clips put the car in test mode. When you clip them together you need to count the number of times the check engine light flashes. Count the slow and fast flashes separately. The slow flash indicates the first digit of the code and the fast flash indicates the second digit of the code. For instance if you get slow slow fast fast fast that means you are throwing a 23 code. There will be a slight pause in between codes if there are multiple codes. Then pretty much google the code(s) you are getting or they should be listed in a haynes manual. I couldn't find a list of the codes online, but you may be able to find a .PDF impreza haynes manual online somewhere. Hope that helps! If you are in the area you can stop by and I will help you out with it. Its probably something dumb like "Complete engine failure" Or "Driver is a tool!" hahaha kidding

^ I concur, although the only basis I have to support it is from clipping a paper clip into a 89 corsica I use to drive during college I paid 80 bucks for. It would flash exactly like that in troubleshooting mode. Good luck!
