I had my car stolen out of Magnolia last year – one of the quieter neighborhoods. Thieves ended up driving it around for a bit and dumped it on the side of the road, mostly intact. Even left a metal bat and a Lil Wayne CD!

Didn't see that you moved. Was in your old hood the other day and thought WTF did that dude do to his house?

Some thieves go after the cheap beater cars.
Friends car was stolen. The dude used it to live in for shelter I think. Car was maybe worth $1k at the most.

So nothing is safe.

Get a killswitch alarm...I have one and my car isnt anything special, took my car getting stolen 1 time to spend the money... I have a sensor inside that sets the alarm if the glass breaks, if the car is started without the key cant do anything. If the suspension moves it goes off too (Don't set your alarm on the ferry) Pretty nifty. Besides my alarm is my Hella supertones blaring... that'll deter someone pretty quick, no alarm is proven to actually work, the smart thieves can get around it all... but every little bit helps. I dont wanna steal a car if my eardrums are bleeding... thats me though

For about 60 in parts and a little work on your part you get a GPS tracking system that will txt your phone with location and speed. I am in the midst of building one of these. putting it in a small waterproof case with a battery charger hooked to the 12v system in my car so that it is always getting charged up.

Once set it will let me know if the car moves, where it is and the speed. Everything can be set by sending the phone txt messages. You can set a CC to auto add say $5 a month to a pay as you go plan and you are set. really a nice elegant solution.

only thing better would be to have a txt msg activate a fuel kill switch along with the gps tracking so when you get close to the car you can kill the fuel and watch them just leave the car.

http://www.opengpstracker.org/index.html

EDIT: Looks like you could add functionality to cut fuel by a relay. I may look into doing this as I could disable the car remotely. would still need a way to bypass switch just in case.

This link isnt recent, but Subaru has actually made the top ten.
I just saw a report on TV last weekend saying the early Legacy was #10.
And Seattle beats Yakima for most stolen cars.

Per capita, Yakima consistently ranks top 10 nationwide.

Old article, but it just shows most of the troublemakers are repeat offenders, because the penalties are so low. They started cracking down some extent, and they made a dramatic dent a few years ago. Not sure how tough they are now with budget problems though. I suspect they are letting them out early again.

You = 5+ years.

Me = entire life.

Team Yakima checking in to report that it is a **** hole. Yes, most places have bad areas, but Yakima is more or less one giant bad area. Top 10 in car theft per capita FTW!

Clutch lock your cars, kill switch them, and lo jack... If you're a little bit techy and can think creatively you can make your own custom lo jack system.

On a positive note, you kids need to stop being so hard on the internet. Haha
