Default My Scooby wont even crank! Cant get to school =[

Hey guys I got my 2001 Subaru in March last year

Anyways, the last couple of days when I want to start my car it simply acts like the clutch isnt even engaged. All lights go on and then it wont even crank or attempt to start, so I used to push the little security bottom a couple times and hold it while starting, and Id get lucky and the car would start.

So this morning I'm running late for school and I try to start my car, nothing! After pushing the security bottom like usual I thought maybe dead battery? So I try jumping it, still nothing.

Dont know what to do right now. I had important **** at school today and I cant get there. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Please reply asap. If you guys need a video I can make one also

find the switch that gets pushed when you push the clutch in (it'll be down there by the pedal pivot). Make sure the switch is getting switched, and if it isn't short the wires leading to it.

Happened to me on my old '02. I bet that's your problem.

Is that switch what you're calling the "security button"?

well, it will act like the ignition is disconnected if the clutch interlock isn't engaged.

When you turn your key, do any lights on the dash light up?

When the factory keyless starts to act up, this is how it starts, usually you have to pull out the starter interupt.....but if you have zero lights on your dash, your battery could be dead for some reason.

Have you checked the clutch interlock switch yet? My money is on that. If you get down and look at the pedal assembly it should be the top switch above the clutch pedal.

A lot of times you can jam a staple or paperclip in next to the wires coming out of the connector and get good enough contact to make the car start. Gotta remember to hit the clutch before starting, though.

I really dont know to well what youre talking about when you say a switch.

Theres a little peg that gets released when I push the clutch about 1/4th of the way down and it makes a click sound, but that couldnt be it since I have to push my clutch to the floor to get my car to start

The top white connector. I don't know what it looks like on the GC's. The peg you mentioned is right there below the blue connector.

You really have to stuff your head under the dash to see it.

I have no idea what that "security" switch thing is - did you put it there or did somebody else?

Ok thanks, found it.

So should I jam a paperclip into where the wires are going into the white connector or what?

well, if you can unplug it do that. If you have a couple female spade connectors you could just make a jumper cable. If not, you could ball up some tin foil and wedge it between the connector's contacts and try to start the car again. Anything to connect the two wires together.

I couldn't see it on the video, but if the little red light, next to the fog light switch isn't blinking, then it probably isn't the alarm.
The dangling switch is for the alarm system. I forget the sequence, but there should be a sticker near the battery that has the instructions of when in the process to hit that button. I think when you hit the button you need to hold it for 3 seconds if I remember correctly. Make sure you try this process first.
Next try the switch on the clutch, you'll want to jump the wire to fool the circuit into thinking the switch is depressed. Just pushing the clutch is how it normally works, but if it broke internally, you need to bypass it.

Sniper, the switch hanging in his video is the oem security overide switch. It's normally on the kick plate, and he should probably thread it back on there.

The old alarms have a ignition cut that can be problematic, and in order to bypass it you'll need to remove the jumper harness....but lets not send you down that road until you need to go there.

Sweet! I did what Sniper said(unplugged the white cable and jumped it with tin foil)

I got sounds! Sounds like the battery is dead since ive been trying and trying for the last 3 hours.

Now just waiting for someone to get home so I can jump start this bad boy. Thanks Sniper!

Ok guys, so I got it going AFTER jump starting it.

But, when I turn off the engine, I cant start it back up. RIGHT after I turn it off, if I try to turn it off it seems like the battery is dead.

I even drove around for like 15 minutes thinking maybe the battery needs to recharge, still nothin.
