Default 2014 WRX SDN Brake/F1 flash brake lights (Subiespeed/Chargespeed)

This might be super simple for a lot of people but I suck ass on wiring cars so it took me forever to figure this out but I hope this thread may help some peeps.

The one I end up getting is the Chargespeed from SMY Performance. It includes with red quick splice/tap-ins, but if you want to use the T-tap disconnects--which are extremely convenient--you can get them from amazon shown below.

Lights:
http://smyperformance.com/index.php/...-red-lens.html
http://www.subispeed.com/2015-subaru...i#.VfkrjBFVhBc

And if you want more T-taps:
Amazon.com: Dorman Help! 85473 Term T-Taps 16-14: AutomotiveAmazon.com: Dorman Help! 85473 Term T-Taps 16-14: Automotive

Wiring Schematics:

Wiring Legend: Brake lights > Chargespeed/3rd brake lights

Brake pedals = Solid light / Reverse gear = F1 Flash mod
Ground (Black) > Black
Brown/Yellow > Yellow
Red/White > Red

Brake pedals = F1 flash mod / Reverse gear = Solid light
Ground (Black) > Black
Brown/Yellow > Red
Red/White > Yellow

Headlights/Fog light = Solid light (Really Bright when it's on all the time) / Brake pedals = F1 flash mod
Ground (Black) > Black
Black/White > Red
Red/White > Yellow

I am in the same boat. I bought the smoked chargespeed from smy performance for my 13 wrx. I followed both of those videos as well. Even though the second video is for a 2015 that is how i wired it up.

Black - Black
Red - Black with white stripe
Yellow - Brown with yellow stripe

Now my issue is that when i turn my parking lights/tail lights on the rear fog turns on but when i hit the brakes i get no flash or anything. It just stays steady on. Also the fog light control on the turn signal stalk does nothing to control the rear fog but i dont really care about that. So my main concern is that mine just doesnt flash when braking.

Another thought i had was that in that second video it was technically a subiespeed light instead of chargespeed so i dont know if they are different.

I am going to recheck my connections once again to see if i missed something.

But if anyone has any input or has succeeded i would also appreciate it.

Same here man, but I think for our cars we don't use the Black and White stripe cable at all. Try tapping into the White and Red cable, not Red and White cable for the Red cable from the F1 fog light.

I just ordered myself a Voltometer and I'm going to measure the voltages I get from when i press the brakes and what not. Also I e-mailed SMY about it and see if they can assist me with the wiring schematics.

Also try turning on your car and going into reverse and see if that starts blinking and if it does then there's a miswiring there because that's where I'm at the moment but I don't want to just keep tapping into the wrong wires.

This is their most recent reply from SMY.

Black Wire - Negative aka Ground (wire to black on the new harness)
Black Wire w/ White Stripe - Fog Light Positive (wire to red on the new harness)
Brown Wire - Brake Light Positive (wire to yellow on the new harness)
If you use the fog light extension harness, the negative and fog light wires will be supplied by that harness. You will only use the OEM tail light harness for the brown wire (brake light positive).

I honestly don't think this works for us. Did you happen to get the F1 flasher to work for you?

Mine is constantly working on the reverse gear, and only then. But when I hit the brakes it just lights up.

Negative is not the same as ground when talking electricity

Also I can dig through my trunk and take a picture if you guys need.

Also I just got my volt meter and ordered these.

I'm waiting for it to arrive then I'm just going to tap on all 5 wires and test them all out since no one can tell us what's the proper wiring for us with these brake light.

bmen you are the man! It looks like the setup i want is the:

black-black
red-black/white
yellow-red/white

Great job, this is sticky worthy stuff since i'm sure plenty more people will be asking questions about these, especially with all the different setup options!

Hey what's up guys!

Do you know if the wiring of the F1 for the 2014 is the same for the 2016 wrx?

I've got mine wired up right now as black to black, black/white to red, and brown to yellow. What happens is with the set up, the only time my F1 works is when I step on the brakes, all it does is it flashes and turns solid. What I'm hoping for it to do is also turn on dim along with my tail lights while my low beams are on and as well as the flashing and turning solid. You guys know what it is I need to do?

I appreciate it and thanks in advance!

There's a difference in the wiring for the 2015-16 from what I remember. I think you use the green cable instead. I'm not quiet sure but an easier route is to probably post a picture of the wiring and I maybe be able to help you if I can recall it properly.

Also what light did you get? Is it from subbiespeed or chargespeed? From what I remember on my chargespeed, the F1 blinker is the yellow one and if you want it to turn solid you use the red to tap into that source... If that make sense?

Also try these wiring out. This was the original schematics given to me by SMY which was for the 2015+.

"Black Wire - Negative aka Ground (wire to black on the new harness)
Black Wire w/ White Stripe - Fog Light Positive (wire to red on the new harness)
Brown Wire - Brake Light Positive (wire to yellow on the new harness)

Thanks for the reply man!

I've purchased subispeeds'. The wiring schematics You mentioned were exactly the same how I did mine without the extension... I can post a pic later today if you'd be able to better help me out that way!

Thanks

I can't see it.

Watch that video and use the same wire schematics but just reverse the wiring and it should work. It's a lot easier if you get the quick disconnects as well
