Default 04 wrx coil install on 98 Legacy motor

I got everything adapted to use a JDM 98 Legacy 2.0 motor in my 04 Subaru (it look 10 months) except the coils. I'm sure someone has done this before or knows what I'm dealing with. The 98 coils have two wires, and the 04 wires have three wires, as if there is a trigger in addition to power and ground, and there is a transistor on the coil pack to do the switching. I'm looking for suggestions. The simple solution is to extend the plug tip by about an inch and use the 04 coils, which will just leave a gap around the coil for dirt and water to get into the area around the plug, but should work electrically. Any advise?

Default crank pick up

I used the newer harness, flywheel, sensors, cam gears, intake, etc. on the older long block...intending to install it this weekend. Still have a few unknowns.
