Unhappy scraped car!!

So the other day I was pulling out of my driveway I turned and scraped my bumper against my dad's car's bumper. I cringed just from the sound.

I looked at the damage and it's pretty bad. Not horrible but bad in my eyes. The paint got completely scraped off onto the other car's bumper. There was a silvr streak right across his bumper. I can see the black plastic of the bumper pretty well.

My mom told me just to use touch up paint and get over it

So I'm here asking, what is the proper way to repair the damage? I'll take a pic and upload it tomorrow.

Thanks in advance guys.

You already know the answer, but probably don't want to hear it. Get it repainted at a shop.

yeah I was fearing that but I really have no choice. I have a door ding on the same side too. I was planning on getting that done with my first oil change but forgot about it. And I can't believe I'm asking this but how much would it cost? I highly doubt it would cost the same everywhere but a guesstimate is good enough for me so I have a general idea.

I'm not a diy guy and I don't have the proper equiptment to do so, so that's not a path I can take.

Try this out. It doesnt look to expensive if you use the Aersol Cans. They have a video posted too.

cant really give you an estimate without seein the pics. if the whole bumper needs to be reapinted im going with $200-$250 range. If it can be blended $125-$150. Just a rough estimate. Been in the paint industry for 7 years doing helicopter and jets, but know what shops would normally charge to do cars. Just remember you get what you pay for with a paintjob. Cheap maaco paintjob or a cheap paintjob in general = ****ty prep work/ body work if any body work. And a nasty orange peel finish.

Hope that helps

From what it sounds like your best bet is to just get that part repainted. Hopefully your friend my be able to hook you up with a deal or some sort. Best of luck to ya.

A little touch up paint and some polish would make that a lot less noticeable. You can get a little bottle of the stuff for cheap if not free from your local Subaru Dealer.

Not sure what kind of deductible OP has but I know rates suck in NJ and for a $300-$600 fix it would be retarded.

Have the bumper repainted by a quality shop and move on. Using touch up on something that size will look like ass.

That's what I thought originally. I'm going to the Passaic county meet tonight so I'll ask around for a good shop around here

don't, not for something that size, your rates will go through the roof as the situation deems you at all fault and they will see you as a "careless" driver, especially as (im only guessing) the OP might be a younger driver
