Going tomorrow morning with a friend to pickup a cobalt SS/SC for 4k ......actually a really nice car.....guess I get to install a clutch since its bad......the car is not for me tho (before I get flamed , even tho stock SS vs stock sti the SS is faster from a roll) Were picking it up to repaint (faded/scratchs) and fix the clutch and the grinding transmission and get a couple grand profit .....good idea? Or no....opinions please...

My dog would hate you, he likes fancy parking, and hates people who aren't into it.

You might end up getting flamed anyways; tough crowd in here as of late. A supercharged SS Cobalt is faster from an STi from a roll? You know that car makes 205hp at the crank, right? I drove the Saturn Ion Redline version of that car; pretty sure my lummox n/a Forester could beat it from 0-30 (lighter, and taller gearing, even though it's giving up 30hp).

You're prob. confusing it with the newer turbo'd one, which is pretty b.a.

I've watched it over n over n over with my own eyes....all different cars and all different drivers....it may have been driver error or the fact that from a roll the SS has the instant gettyup but from a dig all day its the sti if launched obviously. Minor upgrades. Now the SS/TC I don't like at all....although it is a bad a$$ car. And your wrong about the whp.....I've seen many Dyno out at 225+whp on a dynojet stock. My friend Joe owns Pittsburgh performance and has a Dynojet and I've seen these cars over and over make anywhere from 220+ on a hooooooot a$$ day with retarded amount of heat soak....

But hey.....to each its own....personally I wouldn't drive a cobalt for the fact that my wife had a SS when we started dating and it was a pile if ****.....but my buddy couldn't pass up the one for 4k

So you're telling me that a car that gm rates at 205 crank horsepower makes 225 wheel horsepower on. Your buddy's dynojet? Kinda wish my car wasn't apart now - id throw it on this dyno and make 1000.

Of course there's always the chance of driver error - I could obliterate the tires in a TT Viper and get out accelerated by an Aveo..for about .1 seconds. I guess "from a roll" could mean from 5mph to, say, 6mph. Might have a shot in that time period.

So I have had an interesting couple of days.

Got home from my vacation yesterday around 4:00 and decided to drive to Wal-Mart and get some food. About a mile down the road my car overheats and I drive it home. Coolant all over everything under the hood. We run the car a bit and see coolant coming out of the bottom back side of the radiator. We drive up to Tom's house to get another one off him and spend the rest of the night out in the cold trying to swap it in. I get fed up and call it a night around midnight. This morning I went out and got it hooked up the rest of the way fill it with coolant and try to get to the gas station 1 mile down the road. Overheated again on the way there. Now it looks like in the process of installing the new radiator we cracked the top hose. Now I am waiting for my friend to pick up a new hose from the dealer.

Anyway to get ABS into a 1998 Forester base model? Thinking of buying one for the wife to drive and have a good deal (MF582 thanks!) but the lack of ABS + my wife = scared husband. Any way to get it in there?

Anytime someone compares cars 'from a roll' the discussion is over anyway. Completely subjective. When it's cold out my car is faster than a catless sti in mid summer with a heatsoaked intercooler. That doesn't mean it's a faster car.

With snow tires my saabaru is faster in the snow than a fp-red sti with bald tires.

My car will outrun an Aston Martin on an icy backroad.
My car beats my motorcycle in a downpour.
My wife's car is probably faster than my bike when floating down a river.

Easy game to play.

I agree with Dale, cobalts aren't called slobalts for no reason. The stock sc ones are no match for an sti. Most cobalts have an open front diff as well. The lsd came with a very expensive package from the factory.

From a roll
