as far as i know the 06 will not work with the bfm/vag cable since they're can-bus. so your only option so far is an openport 2.0 unless someone got the vag-com cable with can-bus working.

Wrong. The 06-07 WRX are DBW, non CAN-BUS.

I use 1.42.2595 Ecuflash and an unmodded vag-com cable in my 07 WRX

Default I have a BFM cable on the way for v8 swap in 03wrx

Hi guys. I wish I looked into this cable issue before buying mine, but it's too late now. I'll let you know if it works for me.

I have a USDM 2003 WRX with a v8 JDM STI Spec-C swap. I believe my swap is a 2004 v8 (twinscroll ball bearing turbo). Not sure if because I have a 2004 JDM STI ECU, this problem wont effect me?

What do you guys think? If it doesn't work, I could do that modification to the BFM cable?

P.S. My 2004 JDM ECU is 16 bit right?

If you've got a 16bit ecu, you have to MadMod.

This mod is fairly simple, but do not drink coffee before ...

Default BFM cable didn't work on my v8 JDM STI swap

I got the BFM cable. It worked with Learning view, and logged with RomRaider logger, but didn't work with ecuflash. I tried all the timing tricks. I got the same error messages as everyone else.

Just thought I'd post my results. Time to get a VAG cable, and do the "madmod".

Default Help with Madmod on VAG cable

Hey, so I got a VAG cable off ebay for like $5.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/180837590917...#ht_2954wt_938

I did the madmod but it still doesn't work. Maybe I screwed up?

This is the mod I did:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...&postcount=153

It works the same after the mod as before. Any tips for me to try?

I can data log with RomRaider logger. But I can't read from ECU. I am trying to read with ECU Flash. I get the same error as before. I have the test mode connectors hooked up, but I don't have the jump block on because I'm just trying to read from ECU.

Maybe I need a different version of ECU Flash? I'm using EcuFlash Version 1.32.1399

I can't figure out how to attach a pic of my mod. I tested all solder connections with a voltmeter.

Any tips would be great! Thanks.......

Edit: I hooked up jump block. It works fine now. Thanks.

Hi,
EcuFlash Version 1.32.1399 is the good one, have a look to the drivers: take the Tactrix ones.

Edit: OOOOPS, yep. I just needed to hook up the jump block. works fine now. Thanks.

Could it be because I don't have the jump block hooked up? I didn't think it needed to be to read from ecu......

What tactrix drivers should I try? Hmm, I'll look for them online.

I read in another forum to check my BAUD rate. Here are the instructions they posted:

"You may need to adjust the cable's/driver's COM port settings in order to get it to work properly:
1. Go into Device Manager for Windows(right click "my computer" on desktop, go to Properties, then Hardware tab and click "Device Manager" button)
2. Look under ports(COM and LPT) for the FTDI port(cable must be plugged into the computer at this point) and right click and go into properties for the FTDI cable driver.
3. Go to the Port Settings Tab click the ADVANCED button and look at the BAUD Rate. If it is 9600; you will need to drop the box and change it to 4800.
4. This should slow the data rate of the driver/port and allow the cable to connect to the car's ECU properly. Be sure to note the COM port number assigned to the FTDI port as you will need to select it in the logging software.
"

I can't find "(COM and LPT) for the FTDI port" on my Windows 7 operating system.

Maybe my BAUD rate is 9600 instead of 4800?

What do you guys think? Could this be the problem? I'm gonna look some more for this setting...........

Ok. I'll try it with the jump block. I tried with the jump block when I was trying to get the BFM cable to work, but it didn't work either way.

I thought the jump block was required only when flashing? And just the green test mode connectors were all that was required to read from ECU. Right?

Is it just because of the way the VAG cable works with the madmod, the jump block is required?

I'll test it tomorrow with the jump block. I hope that's all that is wrong!

Thank you.

Has anyone had any issues with the newest version of romraider? I don't want to download the newest version with fast poll overwriting my current version if I'm only going to have problems.

Thanks for responding so quick. I just ordered two of these today because my tactrix 2.0 broke on me after a few sessions and i refuse to buy another one. The mini usb fell off of the board. My car is flashed with my own speed density tune using Carberry's/Cardibble's wonderful setup but it's running the higher boost version of my map. It runs great but i can't log for knock right now so i have to stay off of the gas.

If you would like a copy of my map send me a pm. The only issues i have had is not being able to tell if the car has a vac leak or not because it will still run normally with sd. At 15 psi the tmic hose popped off and i thought the turbo was damaged because i wasn't reading any boost and the car was still running great. Also the top of the map isn't tuned past 6200 on the fuel side. It's close to 10.5-10.8. at 6700. Once the AFR's are good uptop i was going to advance the timing some because i retarded the ignition map around peak torque. 0 knock on my car atm

Default Tactrix repairs USB failures

If the USB broke off an OpenPort contact Tactrix (support@tactrix.com). It's covered under warranty. They're almost always repairable unless someone has tried to make a previous repair with too large a soldering iron, in which case it's easy to damage them beyond repair.

Yep. Thats all that was wrong. I plugged the flash block (jump block) in, and wala!

I'm able to read from ecu. I also did a "test write to ecu" and that worked too.

Thanks for the MADMOD! It's works great. I did the madmod without the regulator on a $5 ebay VAG cable.

My car is a 2003 WRX with a 2003 JDM STI swap.

Time to go do some data logging, and start tuning....

If your tactrix usb breaks, send it back and they will fix it. Don't be like me and throw a tantrum.

So I've read the whole damn thread, but I don't remember my question being addressed: I have a normal VAG-COM cable, and the jumper block. My car is a USDM 04 WRX. Do I need to do the MadMod?

Well at least you didn't tell me to search, lol.

I bought the car a month ago and immediately tore into the motor, and now that I'm getting close to getting it running I'm just trying to have everything I need to tune and log. So no, I haven't tried it yet.

mad-modding your cable will not cause it to stop functioning correctly. so, if you have the time... have at it!
