Default Subaru Cruise VIII - Autumn / Winter 2010

Hey gang.

Dewey, Eric (Eevil1) and I as well as Roman (Frogmonk) and I, spoke about the next cruise. It is late in the season.
How does Mammoth Cave National Park sound ?

We are going to Mammoth Cave, KY in early December. And if I remember correctly, the date is 4-5-6 December. Obviously that still needs to undergo a final confirmation but we figured out that
1) it is family oriented - we will visit the Cave
2) it is not Wisconsin
3) we let Thanksgiving be the time of family and friends
4)we are barely at the beginning of the Christmas parties/shopping season
5) we are going towards good weather - there is no snow there, not in December unless for a freak event, it may be in the 40s and 50s.
http://www.mammoth.cave.national-park.com/weather.htm
6) it is hilly, it is rustic, it has awesome roads
7) we are not losing anyone on the Bourbon Trail despite Jim Bean and all other distilleries being around; Corvette Museum and teh like
8) yes it is 3 days, but if you are up for it, you can do it in 2
9) it will not be much longer distance wise than a typical Wisconsin cruise. To the Cave it is 400 miles but that is the farthest South we go - playground will be between Indy and Cave

Based on the weather page you listed, there seems to be a possibility of snow. I'm in either way, just deciding tire usage.

I've determined that I'll never be able to make these cruises due to school. Classes end the 4th, and finals are the following week.

We would not accept you with anything less than all-seasons. Several years back, we had to rescue a car from the ditch on a chilly October morning in Door county peninsula. A little bit wet and 30 meters from Lake Michigan shore - spelled "spin-out" and "ditch" for one of us.

I think partially at fault for the schedule is me. I used to be in school when I started organizing these cruises and I forgot how it is to be a student. well no I did not, still trying to escape the lifestyle.

It if memory serves me right, we are well known for making the shortest highway distance between two points at least 2-3 times greater by taking side roads.

Just so ya'll know I have a blown strut and I am NOT replacing all of them at this time. So one of you better cough up a used (but good) rear oem LGT strut.

Also a new twist - I may not be able to do 3 days :-( since I have a temporary duty assignment away from office Dec 7 thru the 17th. I've been informed of this last Monday and I have been wondering about it for a while now.

Just wondering if you are still planning on doing this? I probably only know Frogmonk but I did ask him about this last time I saw him and would like to go if that's cool.

Yeah unfortunately we will have to delay this trip till spring. i promise next year we will be back stronger, with two trips. What i do have to find out is when most people have spring break. I ran into some scheduling issues last time around and want to avoid it in the future.

The reason for this cancellation is that I had a bit of a change in work schedule which did not allow me to take a Monday off. Yeah :-( I have one of those jobs. And for the past couple of months my car has been hit by issues. In fact I still have to change the struts, scheduled for the week after Thanksgiving.

Frogmonk is a top notch guy. If you know him, then you made the "Cool Wall".

There will be a winter outing from what I hear but i do not have the lead on that.
