Default built 2.0 5k cut out

Ok motor is ej205 in a 02 wrx wagon. Sti rods arp bolts 9:1 pistons revised crank, cosworth bearings. Top end was gone through but is stock motor has 4,000 miles. Won't boost over 7 psi and it shuts down at around 5k

Obviously it needs a tune but what is causing the cutout?

Sounds like limp mode, I was having EXACTLY those symptoms when my car was running without the vehicle speed sensor. Not sure what else could be putting you in limp.

I think you just answered your own question.

If you knock enough, the ECU will disable boost control, leaving you with wastegate boost. Depending on the turbo, that might be 7 psi.

Shutdown at 5k generally sounds like the boost limit fuel cut, but if you're only boosting 7 psi then that's not it... unfortunately I don't have any good theories on that one.

car was back in the shop yesterday due to a bad ground, runs the same now.
I was hoping that fixing the ground would solve my problem.

So the issue is its not throwing codes that are readable. when it cuts out the cel light flashes but there is nop stored code to read.

will a data logger be able to catch it?

what i dont want is to take it for the tune and have to spend my dyno time fixing stuff. would rather have it all kosher then take it to dyno but im not sure what my issue is or if just the tune will fix it.

little more info,
the cut out is load realted, it will spin out to 6800 if its done very slowly but once it sense a little more load it shuts it down.

could this be due to the forged pistons tripping the knock sensor?
