Arrow So who's going to be at Atlanta Autocross this Weekend?

Just wondering. I might come down for this. I actually thought about running for points. But it says only Atl Region members can run for points.

I want to go but several factors are against me.
a) no tires… my ‘92s are almost bald.. fun in the rain
b) no money… 
if I could swing the cash for it would be there and the school they are having on Saturday.
I would love to come and see how “well” you drive… I may go and just watch for a bit.

I just wish some one would call me "sir"... without adding "you're making a scene".

I can't make it to the Sunday event, but I might drop by early Saturday morning to see if there are AutoX School slots left. I need to learn to drive...

I also want to make it to the Tallulah meet.

Hehe... you and me both Ross! I'm wondering if I can fit both this and the Tallulah event in (on Saturday)? Probably not.

as for the school here is the schedule:
it and Tullah are not doable in the same day.
and there are only 2 open spots.

:
OK, everybody. Team Solo met last night and finalized the plans for the autocross school on April 7th. Here’s the deal.
If you want to be one of the lucky 50 people who will be taking this school don’t be relaxed about sending in an online registration. Why? Because the first 50 people to get the tuition to us will be students in the school. You’d be wise to make out a check or money order to Atlanta Region SCCA for $50 tuition and send it RIGHT NOW to our trusty co-chair:

Tere Pulliam
2772 Cliffview Drive
Lilburn, GA 30047

You will also need to be at Turner Field by 7:30 AM to get your car ready for the school, do final registration stuff and be able to walk the course by 8 AM.
If you don’t have a helmet, go buy yourself one right now. Your local Motorcycle dealer probably has one in stock that is just right. Make sure it says Snell 90, Snell 95, or Snell 2000 on it. If all the helmet says is “DOT” on it, it isn’t legal. You’ll pay about $100 for it but you will avoid the smelly loaner helmet trade-around routine and have your own brain bucket for the rest of the season.
It looks like we’ll have lots of good instructors, so plan on good solid individual attention in the school.
Below find a copy of the handout all students will receive at the school:

Atlanta Region SCCA
Autocross School- Turner Field
April 7, 2001

The Autocross School is designed to teach the beginning autocrosser the fundamentals of car control. Drivers will be divided into 3 groups that will be rotated between running, working and watching/riding. Before the 3 sessions you will be driving a course and then attending a classroom session:
Course - At the beginning of the day you will drive a course to establish a baseline for your driving performance. After the teaching sessions you will again drive the same course to show how what you learned effected your driving performance.
Classroom session - Covers the basics of cornering theory, steering wheel hand positions, slaloms and braking. This will also be a good time to ask questions.
Working - The time you spend on course working, is a good time to observe what the other drivers are doing and pick up ideas for your own driving.
Watching/riding - This is the time to absorb even more of what you have been taught. Feel free to ride with other students when their instructor isn’t riding with them.
Afternoon Autocross - Students will be divided into two groups for the afternoon runs. If you aren’t driving you should be working on course. Your instructors will be driving their own cars, feel free to ask them to let you ride with them. Or feel free to ride with one another.

Students need to have:
 Current driver’s license
 $50 entry fee
 a helmet (Snell 90 or newer) We have loaner helmets but it would be better if you brought one.
 a safe car that passes a safety inspection at the site (all loose items must be removed from the car, battery secured, throttle return springs and plenty of air in the tires)
 seatbelts
 tires with plenty of tread (very important because of the amount of time spent driving)

Autocross School Schedule (approximate times)
Time Activity
7:00 School set-up
7:30 Registration
Tech Inspection
Course walking
8:00 Instructor’s Meeting
8:30 Drivers’ Meeting
8:45 Course-baseline performance (1 run)
9:30 Classroom session
10:00 On course instruction
1:00 Lunch
1:30 Autocross (4 runs)
3:00 Evaluation of the school
3:30 Practice runs
6:30 Clean-up
