Default primer and paint question

sorry if this is the wrong forum- i have a body question for a car im painting:

i've just applied my 1st coat of a high build primer and found some swirl marks that I hadnt noticed before. is it best to sand it with say a 500 grit before applying more primer, or should i spray another coat and then sand?
thanks

This is the wrong forum, but I'll anwser anyway.

Most primer/surfacers call for a pretty course surface (usually around 120-220 grit) If you plan on spot priming some touched-up areas, I would not recommend 500 grit as you could end up with adhesion issues. Touch-up the areas you need to touch-up with 150 grit and re-prime the touched-up areas only. No need to re-shoot the whole thing if it's just a few spots that need to be corrected. Also, you never know, you might be able to sand the "swirls" out if you have enough material on there. After all, that's what high build primers are designed to do...

Edit: if you have to ask this sort of question, maybe you shouldn't be painting a car? Not trying to be a dick, but that's how I feel.

I would use 250 grit sand paper after your first coat of HBP, to get rid of those marks. I think 120 would be too harsh, wince that is what you should have been using before you sprayed the car, and 500 is to fine to really do anything significant. I would use 500 possibly after your second coat of high build primer and before your base coat.
