Default Phatbotti Tuned 2004 WRX: 2.0 VF39 MONSTER! 371whp on E85! *UPDATE*

Hey all, Mikey was helping me sort out a few problems i was having with knocking higer up in the RPMS. We couldn't quite figure out why this started happening other than a bad batch of fuel.

Previously the car was running 25* or so of timing at redline. After we started experiencing the problems we could not get the car to accept any more then 16* without it knocking bad! So i emptied the tank by driving on a safe map, filled up at another gas station, did a hard reset on the ECU, & re flashed the map on.

I also swapped out the plugs which were 1 step colder NGK's to stock heat range copper's. We thought that the colder plugs may have been leaving us un burned pockets of fuel and causing detonation since E85 already runs cold enough as it is.

Whatever it was the car is now running better than ever and is a real blast to drive!

hey if you are going to be pushing it on e85 you need to buy the tester from Quick Fuel Technology,if is basically a portable test tube marked off to show what percentage of ethanol is in the fuel you are running. All the instructions for use are on the test tube and IIRC it was less than 20.00.

very good point. i was actually going to test that previous batch.

I was seeing online that Spinx(place that sells e85 here) actually switches to a winter blend of e70

370?!?

And you did this on a 2.0L, with a vf39?

I was reading your other thread and you picked up, basically 30whp just by changing the plugs?

yeah i know doesn't make sense but it's what i came up with when i ran the log last night! I've actually since turned the pressure down, i don't want to run nearly that much power on my stock motor. 342whp was above what i wanted initially! I should be down around 19psi now

I really wasn't pushing the car that hard. I'm just to nervous to blow anything right now. I was able to trap alittle over 90 in the 1/8th which is actually pretty good. I suspect that i could trap 93-94 no prob if i was really goin at it. i think Juan trapped a 95 with his OG Green

Mikey's tells me that with the current setup the car will preform 11.7 all day long. But it will be a good while before i push that hard(gear set, forged pistons etc.)

Thanks though!

Caleb,

Your car has turned out to be a beast, but it looks like they may have switched over to the winter blend (~70% ethanol). Looks like your throwing a 1 count up top. Lets get the tester John was talking about.

Your map was probably setup to avoid significant fuel trimming at high loads, which is normally a good thing, but they probably switched to winter blend or the tank you pumped from is somewhere in between at the moment. As the gas content increases your car will run richer under high load and the ignition system is probably having a hard time burning the mixture.

Caleb is not really launching the car, actually IMO he is not even launching it . He should 2-3mph IMO by launching the car. Caleb: you need to ask Mikey to setup your Launch Control it will make life really easy. My first time at the track was at Greer and I did ok, this the thread about with the camtuning.com map.

Caleb has driven my car with the V39 before, he should be able to make a comparison

Comparing your times with my times is not a really fair comparison. My car was running really crappy because of LC triggering the failsafe fuel tables; like me and other had said in my thread with the bugs fix my car should trap in the high 90s and low 100s in the 1/8th

or if you had stand alone, you can simply pick up the 0-5v signal from the denso sensor but this is a bit cleaner and easier to view.

yes it works real well I check every 3rd fill up for safetys sake ans it is just a smaller version of what everybody used in the beginning and quick fuel tech does a lot of carburetor conversions for racers so their stuff is top notch.

Wow, your mid range timing is awesome! I have a very similar set up to yours but I dont run anywhere near that much. I thought 17* at peak trq was pushing it. Maybe I will have to do some tinkering and see if I can pick up some torque.

Caleb,

You have asked me quite a few times as to what the car is capable of running down the track.

Bonfire with the 18g just went 11.8 @115 in his 04 wrx, full weight.... making 32whp less!!
