Default 1997 Legacy GT Wagon

Hey all, I've been on here for a while, but have not posted in some time. I recently purchased a 97 Legacy GT Wagon, and I have noticed that I smell burning oil on occasion. To further irritate me, I have also noticed that there is some very light leakage from the engine area under the car when it has sat for some time (a day or so). It drips approx 3-4 drops per day.

Anyone have ideas on what the possible or common problem areas are on the 2.5 L from 97?

Help would be greatly appreciated, and I will get pics up sometime soon.

Thanks everyone!

Does it appear to be from the front or the rear of the engine? There are seals on both ends that could be leaking, and either way it's easy for the leakage to blow back on the header and burn off giving you that smell. Cam seals, front main seal, o-ring between oil pump and block, rear main seal, and oil separator plate are all possibilities.

You can pull the engine and do a reseal kit on the whole thing for less than $400 if you're good with a wrench. These engines are amazingly easy to work on.

Thanks guys.

Luckily I am good with a wrench and many other tools and have access to engine hoists and stands as well as air tools.

I took a closer look under the car yesterday afternoon and the oil leak appears to be from the oil pan, but I can't be sure until I get the car in the air to check.

If I'm not mistaken, the reseal kit would include all the seals and the gaskets (head gasket, valve covers, etc...), correct?
