Default what type of oil and weight do you guys use?

Just curious. i've always used Royal Purple 10W30/10W40 pending on the season for the last 4 yrs. just want to know what the average person uses on their EJ20 G/K/205/207.

There is lots of information in the Service & Maintenance section, but RP is known for shearing down quickly. Lots of us have had success with Rotella T6 5W-40, and the UOA's are great.

You could probably run Shell Rotella 5w40 and GC 0w30.

<<<--- flogging the snot out of her since new with a stage II+ setup (312whp/360ft/lbs) At almost 70K and oil analysis results have always been great. I use the taboo Mobile 1 5w-30. I often never have to add oil between 3K miles oil changes, and when I have added oil it's no more than 1/4 quart. Half of my mileage is the worst kind; 2 mile trip then turn off the car, hardly ever gets up to full temp and the other half pure highway. While I abuse this car as much as possible, one thing I ALWAYS do is wait until the oil is up to temperature before getting into any boost.

ams oil 5-30, i know its expensive but my engine builder swears by it. does oil analysis every oil change and they come back clean every time.

after i lost one to a spun rod bearing from crappy penzoil i decided oil was a good thing to spend some coin on

this. I actually had a friend who was using RP 5w30 for his new sti, he was using it because the guy at the dealer "recommended" it to him, and sold it to him. He burned 1L every 1k miles for months, untill I was finally able to convince him to switch to something else, M1 0w40. after that things were normal. true story.

before 98k I never needed to add oil b/w my 7k mile intervals. but now I've been burning alot more 1L every 5k miles. and this was on syntec 0w30....I need to change oil but torn b/w choices.

shell rotella 5w40 or m1 0w40, 5w40, or maybe even one of the true synthethic motul or lubromoly stuff. most likely rotella. its cheaper and easy to get and I need oil change asap.

i had issues with the valvoline burning real quick....i was running M1 then switched to valvoline (a bit cheaper) and in 1500 miles I was down 2.5 quarts. Put M1 back in, no issues....half a quart every 5000 miles with no issues. Not sure why valvoline went haywire. 141k + on the car.

I don't think we get Shell rotella here on Okinawa. i'll look again but on base we have the

Pennzoil
Valvoline
RP
Castrol
M1

and more but i am really interested in the Shell rotella. i'll look on other bases to see if they got that oil. i am due for an oil change and would like to find some good oil to use on a tropical island. maybe M1 5W30 to see if it runs good.

-german castrol 0w30
-penzoil platinum 5w30

Valvoline SynPower 5w30 full synthetic. So far, so good. I like their "300,000 mile engine guarantee" even though I fully doubt they will ever pay out on anyone's engine failure.

So, to what do you ascribe the increased consumption?

that castrol is still an energy conserving oil

meaning that it isnt worth a ****

the 5w40 would be a better choice
