Default 2015 WRX Premium (Australian Variant)

I figured I would post some photos of my 2015 WRX Premium (WRB) since you guys in NA miss out on a lot of little things we get down under.

So far i've been able to distinguish the following differences:
- front grill
- rear fog light
- mirror indicators (I think)
- blacked out LED headlights
- front fog lights as DRL as well as normal DRLs (fog light housing has two bulbs)
- trunk lip/spoiler

These are just some quick photos from my phone - I plan on taking higher quality ones over the weekend so if anyone has any photo requests let me know.

Cheers mate. Very nice!

Yes, those and a few extra differences (headlight washers, left-hand drive dash, different trim options) were known and bulleted out in Jan/Feb when the first official photos of the JDM/ADM and USDM cars surfaced.

Can you please take some good close-ups of the fog lights where the two bulbs are visible?
And the headlights (angled profile view). Plus if you get a chance, could you ask your local Oz dealership re pricing and part #s for the grill and rear-fog replacement?

I've got a few Aussie and Kiwi friends who might be able to pick them up for me.

Awesome. Can we get a close up of the grill in good lighting conditions?

Also, how are blacked out headlights and trunk lip spoiler different? Or do you mean they're standard on all trim levels in Australia?

Maybe i'm wrong about the blacked out headlights and trunk lip? I was never 100% on it.

The second fog light bulb (on the bottom of the housing) runs as a DRL as well as the high beams - confirmed this today

The headlight housing on the WRX here in the states seem to change between clear/reflective and blacked out based on the photos that I've seen.

This is what the rear fog lights looks like at night (sorry for the average photo quality its from a Nexus 5). It is very bright! Whilst driving and toggling the rear fog light on and off I can see a lot more red reflection in the road in the rear view mirror - does its job well I guess

Here in NA the headlights depend on the trim level of the WRX. The base and premium levels come in the clear/reflective halogens and the Limited comes with the same blacked out LEDs the STI gets. The real difference is the US versions have the amber side markers.

The rear trunk lip comes standard on the premium and limited trims and is optional on the base. The mirror turn signals do not come on the WRX here, you have to step up to the STI to get those. The other things mentioned are definitely different, but you can add right hand drive vs left hand drive to the list.

Waiting to see where I can pick up the rear fog light upgrades. Added to list of mod's. This is going to get bad for my pockets...

Thanks mate. Yes, we get both blacked out housings (limited trim only) but with the terrible orange reflectors mandated by NA laws. There are also reflectors (red) in the tailights. I bet you are missing those. We also get the trunk lip (all WRX) or trunk wing (all STi, except Canadian, where you can opt out of it and the base STi comes with the trunk lip only).

That fog assembly looks strange indeed. Very different and unique setup from what we get here across North America. I wonder if the JDM and EDM STi get the same setup you have? Probably yes.

Speaking of - how do the various lights work for you? Since you don't have high-beams at half juice DRLs, I bet you can set the low-beams, high-beams and position/C-shape lights independently.

How about fogs? Are they independent from low/high beams and can you also turn the front and rear fogs on separately from one another or only tandem?

When do the C-shape lights turn on for you? I'm assuming only when you turn on position lights since you have the fog light extra bulb for DRL function?

Yes, but in both cases we have the fugly required-by-law amber reflector up front and red reflector in the back. JDM/ADM/EDM Subarus don't have them, even in the taillights.

Lol re Belize. I'm actually from New York City but love to scuba dive (dive master cert) and my favorite diving destination is Belize. Left my soul @ 150 feet down the Blue Hole, on the Lighthouse Reef (google it). San Pedro, La Isla Bonita.

Yeah the fog light arrangement is very odd. The actual H16 fog light is in the back and directly in front of it is a reflector lip which houses the smaller bulb.
I was playing around with the lights this morning and I haven't actually been able to activate the smaller fog light bulb. I looked through the manual and it doesn't say when the second bulb turns on but it does acknowledge that there are two bulbs there.

In terms of DRL's it seems like the AUS model has the C-lights act as actual DRL's as well as the H16 fog lights - the high beams are solely for high beam no DRL at all. I'm going to investigate this further cause i'm a bit puzzled by it all.

Now, back to ADM WRX - cpalada - can you get us the part #s for the grill/grill insert and stock rear fog light?

Does your WRX come with red or blue stitching on the inside?

What happens if the engine is running, the gear is in neutral, but the handbrake is not active? You'd need to put in some wheel chocks to make sure the car doesn't roll away. Iirc, there's a light in the BRZ that behaves this way too; you won't see it as the driver unless you let the car sit idle on a level surface and no handbrakes.

Does your WRX come with red or blue stitching on the inside?

I have tried contacting the genuine subaru parts dealer and they're getting back to me re: part numbers and prices. The WRX has red stitching all throughout.

I'm upgrading my fog lights and high beams to LED kits tonight and post photos of everything. I will try see what the lights look like when in neutral and hand brake off when doing this and update back

Yep, same here! Thanks cpalada.

So we can confirm the stitching is common across the regions for the WRX.

I believe the Launch Edition STIs get blue stitching.
Vanilla STIs get red stitching (just like WRX) and leather inserts (meh).

Thanks for checking on the grill for us, will be good to know.

Waiting for pics!

Heard back from Subaru parts dealer today and they said they didn't even have those two parts in their inventory yet cause the car is so new over here!

I got the LED kits today for fog lights and high beams. I couldn't actually fit the LED bulb into the fog light housing - the opening for the bulb is quite small so that was a no go. Also another note: my fog light bulb was labelled as H8, not H16 (although there are very minor differences).

The high beam LED's went in easily and boy are they bright! For those in NA who plan on upgrading their high beams to LED's I would highly recommend you do that tweak with the DRL relay to disable the DRL function to high beams. They're definitely too bright for the road as DRL's. Luckily this isn't the case for me since the high beams only function as high beam.

Also, the LED's I got were 5000K these are more functional in projecting more light but they are white and don't match the blue LED headlights that came stock with the car.

I only got a chance to snap photos of the beam pattern from inside the car. I'll upload more photos from exterior tomorrow.

Stock LED headlights (you can see the ugly yellow fog lights at the bottom)

High beams with LED Kit

The high beam photo didn't really turn out because of the white garage door. Trust me they are bright, they turn night into day on a dark road!

I tried this earlier today and I tried all three setting on the light/indicator switch in the car:
  • Off (on indicator switch): The C light DRL and fog light are both turned on
  • First setting (on indicator switch): The C light DRL and fog light are both turned on
  • On (on indicator switch): The LED low beams, C light DRL and fog light are all turned on
  • On w/ high beam (on indicator switch): All lights were turned on (High and low beams, C light DRL and fog lights)

Very nice! Thanks for the updates.

For the fogs you'll want the H11 socket from ck-hid. They fit like a charm.
Check out Bellipoten's build thread for a video and pics in fog housings.

Agreed on the high-beam DRL disable front.
