That's crazy how the 20-24 was less of a power increase than the 24-27. even though its one pound less, Is that the range the turbo is more efficient in?

Because that looked good, I decided to turn the MBC up halfway to where it normally is at. I did a couple logs and it peaked close to 24psi, with a little taper down to around 22psi. Then to finish it off I turned the MBC up to my normal spot and it was just barely touching 27psi and then tapering down close to 24-25psi.

Looking at the boost and torque (for the 24psi and 27psi graphs especially) you can see that I probably did have a slight uphill for run 1 and slight downhill for run 2 of each set. This slightly affected spool and peak torque. But overall the results are very consistent.

And here is the plot with just one run from each boost setting. Solid, incremental gains with each change in boost. This is a nice, easy way to see how increasing the boost can really bump up the power (assuming the turbo is still able to flow enough air). It also shows why people running this turbo (or similar ones) at lower boost will definitely see lower power.

It was actually probably more like 23.5psi. I think it barely touched 24psi for maybe a couple data points. I didn't read too much into that. I don't think the turbo is any more efficient with the higher boost.

Very cool indeed. How come you never seem to have traction problems?

Probably because of the AWD. Haha. But really. Yeah. I've seen the big turbo guys on MSF who can't put down power under 120mph. Makes it pretty pointless to have 400HP if you're slower than Stage 2 until 4th or 5th gear. My brother's MS3 is Stage 2 + E85 and he can easily spin the wheels at highway speeds.

On dry roads during the summer I can usually hook up rolling in first. But if the road is less than perfect I spin first and second. Winter is worse. I was lighting up traction control rolling into 3rd the other day. But for these logs the road was nice and grippy and I didn't seem to have any problems.

Lol. Maybe the highest with a 100+ page build thread. I'm sure there are higher out there. Probably don't go on the internet.

Is this with the Greddy? Seems like all I hear is engine noise in the video. Must truely be quiet.

I was actually thinking about my stage 2 WRX, I did not like the wheelspin caused by the open diffs... I'm thinking that your car is probably how mine drove on snow (except you're on dry pavement) and was definitely prone to wheelspin. The only time I could really get wheelspin on dry pavement was during auto-x sessions (on exits from turns).

MS3 spins in stock form already in 1st and 2nd, I can only imagine how your brother's car is. I can't wait

Yes, it is with the GReddy. From inside the car, you pretty much only hear gear noise and then the EWG opening. As you can tell by the video, the EWG really isn't even that loud from inside the car with the windows up. You definitely do not hear the exhaust at all once the EWG opens.

It's very easy to get the wheels to slip with the WRX if I'm gassing it and turning, but in a straight line it grips pretty well on a good road surface.

Even at Stage 1 (removes the electronic torque limits) the MS3 can spin a lot. Once you add more torque it gets even easier.

With my nameless catback (muffler delete) and catless downpipe I can't even hear my EWG anymore at WOT

That's a bit surprising to me. Even with the N1 style GReddy Ti-C the EWG was much louder. It must be noise through the hatch that you're hearing. The EWG is kind of behind the firewall, so it's not that loud in the car (especially with the windows up). If you have the windows down or are outside of the car, the EWG is way louder than any exhaust that runs the length of the car.

Yeah it probably would be more noticeable with the windows down. I have a sedan btw, assuming you may have thought I had a hatch?

My brother texted me the other day after I had left the house when I was roughly 3 miles or so away, and he said he could still hear me then when he was outside haha it's not too bad during cruise, but any throttle tip in at all and it sounds absolutely vicious

Yeah, I was thinking hatch. The sedan muffler delete isn't crazy loud from what I've heard. This surprises me even more. Do you have any in car video? I'm almost sure you'd be able to easily hear the EWG open up.

Ill have to get some in car videos for you. But from what I've read the sedan version was generally the louder?? All I know is, it's foolishly, ridiculously, amazingly savage and loud haha you can hear it slightly if you really listen for it with the windows up. With the windows down you can hear it easily, but I would say its only slightly louder, if not on par, with the exhaust with the windows down.

I've also never heard my car from a third person POV either, so I'm guessing that outside the car the EWG is much more pronounced and noticeable over the exhaust. Ill have to test it and get my brother to take my car for a rip, see what everyone else experiences as I ruin their eardrums :P
