I think you should do 20% or 25% Ben. Mines 15% and I don't find it that dark. I've had 5% before and loved/hated it.

That's what I'm thinking. I know I'd hate 5%. 20-25% seems about right. Pretty dark, but not too bad. There aren't too many blazing hot/sunny days a year in MN, so I don't need it to be blacked out. In fact for 6 months of the year I pretty much only drive in the dark (to and from work during winter).

When is smart glass going to get into cars? I want to be able to turn a knob for dark/light

^^This.

Too bad Subaru will take their sweet time adopting it once it comes out

If you're auto crossing or racing/tracking at all, just throw some cheap vinyl on the outside. It'll be easily done and easily reversed if you don't like it. Consider it a trial run. If you love it, then get some good 15-20% tint for it and keep it there. If not, no harm done!

Yeah, I was thinking that a vinyl strip would be cheap, and it seems like an easy enough spot to install myself. If I don't like it, it's not a big deal to just rip off and throw away.

Take some pics if you do! I think it looks badass, especially on darker cars.

On a serious note, 0% VLT means absolutely no light can be transmitted trough. Subarus glass from the factory is something like 94% VLT. So any tint you get will actually be a little darker.

Whoops! I actually do know that haha I meant 0 tint, I suppose. Stock glass, in any case.

Yeah, I figured stock was around 5%. I'll have to see what options I have. I'm not sure if 25% is available, so I might end up with 30% tint for a 25% actual. I'm not really sure. I think I'd be OK with 20% actual if I can get that.

I had 35% all around on my 2008 sedan (DGM), and will be getting the same on my 2013 WRB 5-dr this Saturday. Its plenty dark, if you ask me. Pic's online don't do any good at representing the actual tint. The WRB car posted above with 20% is what my 35% looked like in person. You could still see the driver, but not clearly and the back was quite dark with the rear window done.

seriously, use a ceramic clear tint.

thats one of the next mods on my list.
Lots of states are making legal a windshield tint. It's typically a VERY light tint, but somehow it manages to block an amazing amount of UV light and heat.

I'm wondering this too. I've been thinking of doing a light tint on the windshields of both my cars. My limited especially. The tan interior is nice but it's bright and makes the tint look lighter than it is

Oh and I always use 20% all around. Sometimes darker. Have had 5% on rear and 15% on sides of a few cars. Loved that a lot during the day and when trucks were behind me at night.

I tried taking some shots from inside the car but it didn't really show the difference.

50% front, 35% rear. In person, I feel like it is a smidge darker than the photo shows. I guess it all depends on the angle of the lighting.

I have 35% front doors and 25% rear window and doors. It's perfect for me. I wanted to post a pic but all my pics make it look like i have a limo tint. I have a white car so that is probably the case. I won't do limo again, night time is horrible.

In Vegas, some of us in the Flat4 have gone with Dimentia front windshield tint. it's a ceramic based heat reflection film. It reflects back about 50% or more of the heat trying to come in...and it works. It equates to an 80% tint and you don't notice it at all. One of the questions I get asked about it is if polarized sunglasses will work with it, and yes they do.
It's fairly expensive film and it's something you need to have done in a shop...no Mexicans in a van doing this in your driveway due to dust kick ups. You'll want it done inside a shop.

In this pic it's being shaped on the outside 1st before it goes on the interior side of the windshield. Hope this might give ya another option. Jive was interested in it a few months back and I gave him the same info as this.

Is there any restrictions on it(since it does tint a little) state to state? Anyone know?
