Hmmm... Ben modded (heavily) his car, burnt it to the ground, and gets a free pass?

After hundreds of pages of praise and support, a few pages of discussion as to the downfall (none of which has been damning) seems fair at the very least. Add to that his tendency to cry wolf... Fairness is a balance, not a trend. This is a "forum"...

what are you? the internet police?

he doesn't have to answer to you or anyone else on this forum. it's as simple as that. if he doesn't want to talk about it he doesn't have to.

Didn't ask for Ben's input... Probably keeping quiet for legal reasons. Doesn't mean that discussing the issue isn't justified.

Hah, no. I'd actually much prefer he still have his car. I enjoyed his build and appreciated the level of documentation as much as the next guy.

Sadly though, he could get nailed just for the existence of this thread, locked or no. If it was linked to his ride the claim could easily be denied, unless he had provisions in the insurance policy that allowed for modification.

I think most of us are in that boat. Should something go wrong we would love to claim insurance. But, if it's my aftermarket heat wrap that starts it, I'm to blame.

exactly, the thread should probably be deleted but I guess he would have had it deleted if he needed to.

By that logic you'd have to delete half of the forum.

In all reality, a lot of insurance companies don't care if you have modifications. My insurance doesn't care, they'll still cover everything if anything happened, but they are more expensive by quite a bit then some other companies that quoted me, but they made it clear that any modifications that could warrant a moving violation would nullify any insurance claim in case of an accident.. Haha which is why I'm still with the same group

^^ i tried to stay uninvolved. Insurance companies cover all nonwearable items unless its safety related. With reciept. I know its happened to me twice. Jdm sir 1.8 vtec and lsd trans covered. Spoon cams covered. Spoon ecu coveredm..etc

Your insurance experience seems different than mine. I was told that even my aftermarket stereo would not be covered. Of course it did not void the insurance as a whole. Are you saying that you got a modified motor replaced?

I can't see them buying off on a custom fuel system that burns the car to the ground or even headlights that blinded on-coming traffic though, that certainly seems safety related to me. Here's an example of what we would consider a safety upgrade causing a claim denial:

http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f323...urance-102310/

We digress though. I'm still wondering, with Ben's attention to detail and documentation, how a malfunction of that magnitude could have happened. I almost wonder if E85 ate through something... I've seen a few people demonstrate that not all fuel components are capable of withstanding the elevated ethanol content.
