^^ I'm glad I'm not the only one in that situation... When I'm alone, I barely here it. When my fiance is in the car, all of a sudden becomes the most annoying tone ever. Good thing she in the car only 4 time a year when I head to NY for the holidays!

You're a better man then I Ben...

Ha! Yeah, it's funny how that works. I'm hoping I can find an aftermarket exhaust that's 3" and still very quiet. The Q300 wasn't too bad, but it seemed to be a bit too loud at cruising speeds. The stock exhaust seems silent. It feels odd driving around now...

Ha! I actually pulled into the garage today and then forgot the car was still on until I opened the door and could hear it.

There's always the Maddad whisper, or you could do an electronic cutout.

Thanks. I hadn't considered the Whisper. It looks pretty nice. I will have to see if I can find some sound clips. I had considered the cutout, but I don't think it's really worth it. The EWG opening up seems to give me plenty of flow (and sound). Right now I'm considering the Nameless. It is supposed to be very quiet, and I like the fact that it uses an OEM style midpipe, so I could swap the stock muffler back on if I need to.

I was reading on rallysportdirect that some people had problems with the gauges in the SMY cluster bumping into the stalks if you have the wheel pushed all the way in, is that a real concern or are they just noobs?

No, that certainly is possible. I have Defi gauges and do not use the bezels. If I push my wheel all the way in, it is very close to hitting the gauges. If I had the bezels installed, then I think it would hit. Gauge that stock out further could even be worse.

When the pod was designed, they had to compromise between the pods being deep enough to fit any gauge, and being short enough so that gauges that stick out in the front would fit. They chose a design so nearly any gauge can fit depth-wise. In some cases that means they'll stick out too far. BUT the good news is that you can easily cut of a portion of the pod for more clearance (as long as your gauge is short enough that the internal depth is not an issue), or simply not push your steering wheel in quite all the way.

yeah I didnt really think it would be a problem until I saw that review and then I realized that I keep the wheel all the way back when I'm driving so I'm slightly concerned. I have a defi gauge too so I'm sure I can make it work. Thanks for the info.

The Whisper isn't really that much of a "whisper" at all. I have it and love it, but the name is deceiving. The exhaust is pretty loud quite honestly. Here is a link to one clip, you can click the other vids and see a few others of it.

Oh wow, that does seem loud. Thanks for the video. I'm definitely going to have to pass on that.

Yeah, it still makes the same power. The peak boost dropped by about 1psi, but the power still holds just fine up top. The video I posted was with the stock cat back, still pulls pretty good

Loud on the highway, really? I have a q300, single tip for '10 hatch, and mind is extremely quiet. Is the quad tip really that much louder? I always thought the q300 is one of the quietest 3" catbacks available for our cars

The original quad tip Q300 was really quiet. Then invidia changed the design for some stupid reason, and now it's obnoxious. Just do a search on 2011s with Q300 droning issues...there are quiet a few, myself being one of them. I'll be switching to something new.

They changed the way that the pipe enters the muffler. The original design had a 180 degree bend and then came up straight into the bottom of the muffler. Kind of like the "trap" pipe underneath a sink. People didn't like the reduced ground clearance and thought it would hurt flow having a weird bend like that.

The new design angles the muffler downwards to meet up with the piping. This seems to create the straightest flow path possible. I liked this aspect of the design, even though I don't think it really helped ground clearance that much. I think this must be what makes the exhaust somewhat loud, IMO.

Of course sound is all subjective, I have heard many exhausts that are louder. The Q300 is actually very quiet at idle, but the noise while cruising is what really got to me.

Well, the car certainly doesn't look or sound "cool" like it did with an aftermarket exhaust, but the power still seems to be there. I really don't think the cat back exhaust changes power much at all. BUT one thing you also have to consider is that I have an EWG. Once that opens up, it's like a basically have no exhaust (very free flow), so that may account for my good results with the stock cat back. (But even without the EWG, I haven't seen much to show the cat back changing power.)
