Normal. GL5 oils really stink.

Is it the oil or the friction plates of the LSD that make it grey? I guess I could redrain my rear diff and see if the mobile 1 gear oil looks grey also.

I believe the LSD is a sealed viscous unit, so I doubt that's what's giving it the gray color.

Well the diffrence between the oil drained from the front to the stuff drained from the rear was like night and day.

The front was free flowing like fresh oil. The rear was like treacle, It was so thick it was unreal. I caught some in my hand and rubbed it between my thumb and finger and it was just so thick I was scared to pour the replacement in.

Weird, mine also was thicker in the rear than the front.

Replaced both with Mobil 1 synth.

When filling the rear I used a small rubber hose on the bottle. Wehn the diff was almost full the damn hose came off and fell INSIDE THE DIFF!%$^&

I had to drain it all back out again then fish the dang tube around till I got it out the bottom hole. Lucky me.

I have seen an increase in gas mileage since using synth tranny and diff fluids, its only about 4 percent but still cool.

If it's a GL5 Oil, then yes. I also replaced with Mobil 1 Synth. Remember, it's going to be a little dirtier the first drain, since you'll have all the crud and crap from the differential breaking in. I first used redline 75-90 my first changed, and the oem oil was really dirty and nasty. WHen I changed the redline to Mobil 1, it wasn't as nasty.
