so, I'm about to take an auto body class in college because I don't have anything better to do with my time, so I need to come up with some projects to do in there to occupy me during class. I'm going to have full access to all the tools and supplies to do whatever, including welders, a paint booth, etc etc. I know what's involved in such a conversion, and the amount of work needed doesn't really phase me.
I've got a bugeye wagon, and I've always enjoyed the BG legacy front end. How difficult do you guys reckon it'd be to put two and two together? I'm inclined to think this will work because the GC/GM/GF front end is able to swap with the GD/GG front. Also, the BG front end is the same width as the GC, their front bumpers are supposedly interchangeable or at least close. Come to think of it, the legacy and impreza front ends have to be the same length, too. The engine and front suspension is the same, the distance from the engine to the radiator is the same, and the distance from the engine to the firewall is the same. So far, the plan is this: Get a BG hood + hinges. Hopefully they attach the same. If not, mod the hinges to fit on my car. Remove the rad support / headlight buckets from a junkyard BG, weld or bolt it in. Install lights, bumper (bumper may need zipties and new holes in the bumper beam, no big deal). The hard part would be the fenders, basically I'm thinking I'm going to have to lay a sedan impreza fender on top of a BG fender, and weld the flare and door / window frame parts of the impreza fender onto the BG fender, leaving the edges of the BG fender that line up with the hood, lights, and bumper. Anyone ever done something like this before? Sound feasible? Terrible idea?

looked at this car more today, and noticed it has GD impreza flares on the fenders
![]() you can see the flares are the correct size, so it looks like the fenders wouldn't be difficult to graft together I'm going to go to a junkyard later in the week and see if I can snatch a BG front end. |
