Default Would I be happy with an Impreza?

Hello everyone! I am new to the forums, and am looking to buy an Impreza! I was just wondering if you think I would like an Impreza. Right now I drive a 2000 GTI VR6. I like how quick it is, but it is expensive to maintain, takes premium gas, and is only a two-door. I was looking for a 2.5Ts originally, since I didn't think I would be able to afford a WRX. I like the fact that they're AWD, reliable (right?), have plenty of room, and seem more basic, which I am fine with. But just a few days ago, I found a WRX wagon that I might be able to afford. The only thing is it has some rust above the rear driver's side wheel well, and has 180k miles.
So, I just kind of want everyones opinion, will I be happy with a Scooby, and should I go for the WRX or just the 2.5TS? The WRX costs $5500, which is about $1000 more than a 2.5TS, but I would have to fix the rust. Is 180k a lot for this engine? I can do lots of engine work myself, along with maintenance and wiring and such.
Thanks! And hopefully I will be driving an Impreza soon!

My advice would be to test drive the 2.5TS and the WRX and see if its worth the extra $$.

IMO 180k is a lot of miles but if you know the history of the car its not a major risk, plus you say you can do a lot of work yourself.

Im sure you could get the WRX down to a price you like - if not wait a little longer... its a buyers market.

My vote goes to the WRX - i'm more than happy with my '02 WRX.

180k is actually pretty ridiculous.

I suggest you not jump the gun at every opportunity and wait until the right one shows up for sale. That, and save up some more money for a WRX in decent condition.

Yeah, I work with a guy who has a WRX and from his opinion and you guys' opinions, it seems like that is a lot of miles. The rust does scare me away too. I guess the question now is how long do these engines last for, if properly maintained? Most specifically the EJ25, I doubt I'll be getting a WRX. Hopefully a 2.5TS or Outback Sport
Thanks!
Oh, and the reason I don't think I'd get a WRX is mostly because of price and insurance.

Alright a little off-topic for what I asked, but is 160k a lot for a Subaru? I found a 2000 OBS close by with 160k..
Edit: I guess for both the 2.5 and 2.2 engines.
Thanks guys, I'm building my Subaru knowledge!

160+ miles on a Subaru is common, but most of the time it's just on the body. 160+ on a single motor and what not is nuts, I'm sure a lot of things had to be replaced with new parts and well maintained to still be in order. Honestly this is my opinion, but if i were you I would sell your VW or maybe try trading?
