Question Has anyone lower their Drivers seat, 2000+ model?

Another question from my husband. Has anyone lower their drivers seat post 2000 Legacy model? He has no under the wheel room for his large legs. Plus his head touches the top of the roof with the moon roofs. We noticed Subaru raised the seats up since the 2000 models. Is there anyway to lower them (and yes we have it on the lowest setting)? Has anyone made a different bracket or bought a different bracket to lower the seat?

I have the same issue when driving my Mom's 2002 base Outback - the seat is too high. On my '96 Outback, I have the seat adjusted almost to max height and still have plenty of room but the '02 is hard to get comfortable in even at the lowest height.

One thing that I noticed is that the power seat in the GT seems to be lower than the Outback. I'm not talking lower in relation to the ground but lower in relation to the floorpan and steering wheel. Maybe they use a different bracket??

Thumbs up GT vs. Outback seats

Well no, they are exactly the same. He has the same legroom under the wheel of my GT as he does in his Outback. He wishes he kept his 99 Outback with it's ample leg and headroom- and so do I! We think now that the rear swaybar links were broken in that car since it did not corner well at all. Horrible infact, even dangerous. If we only knew then what we know now- to replace the plastic endlinks with Whiteline endlinks our 99 Outback would be perfect! And we'd have a lot more money in the bank!

I have noticed the same thing as DaveM, excpt it even varied by the interior color. between the 10+ OB's I drove (helping my brother research his) the black interiors seat always went down further than the tans. Why, got me, ...

What this means, I don't know, Just thought I'd ad.

Thumbs up Black seats

That's interesting. Our 2001 Outback has black seats and he had the exact same problem with it. I spoke to him about it yesterday. He said he is so irritated with the lack of headroom and under the wheel legroom that he will not shop for a Legacy. This means trouble! We'd have to sell it on our own and take a huge loss. Then we wants a Passat 1.8T wagon with the Sports, Sound, and Leather packages and they do not sell at invoice like Subarus do. And they are out of 2002 models so we'd have to get a 2003 with a high interest rate. So it will be even a bigger payments plus all the money we lost on the Bean. I hope he can lower this seat since if not, we will be in trouble! Please HELP!

Have Mr. Heather try on a "L" seat, if it fits. Ask your dealer if they can install the brackets from a "L". That model shouldn't have a power seat.

Talking Same thing

I wanted Brooke to buy the 2002 L wagon in his favorite color silver, but he refused. He did sit in it and it was exactly the same! Our 1996 L had seats really low, so low in fact it felt like I was sitting on the freeway when driving. Consumer Reports really bashed the LOW seats and so they were changed in 2000 so they can not go low. Not right! There should be that option. He is only 6'3" and his headroom and legroom are gone due to this "upgrade." I like it much better myself though
