Default wrx sti powered 1972 vw beetle 325hp +

hello

i though maybe some of you liked my swap

5 years ago i started with a 1972 vw beetle

the plan was to build a fast beetle with at least 300hp

intercooler intake both windows are moved 15cm about 6 inch inside in the rear
outlet is under the little wing on the back

youtube:

http://youtu.be/-2wilTC5Cs0

car spec:

VW 1303 beetle 1972

engine

2002 subaru wrx sti (bugeye model) ej207 sti engine VF35 turbo
engine is stock
ecu: 2002 sti jdm ecu (i used jdm ecu because no need of immoblizer and keys instead of euro models)
ecu is ecutek remapped to 98 oct fuel and runs around 1,5 bar boost
should have at least 325hp+. it is not been on the dyno yet
rev.limit 7800rpm
i can get 120klm (75mph) in second gear

exhaust:
custom made 3" stainless steel with 2 magnaflow 4" mufflers
i'm driving with DB-killers it is now 2 times 2,25"
but it has no influence on the power or spool up of the turbo
but driving without db killers makes it like a rally car sound
there is a youtube link above

gearbox:

porsche 911(964) G50.03 5 speed gearbox incl shifter
that is modified to custom shifting linkage

clutch adapter kit

KEP: adapter kit
sachs stock 911 pressure plate
and high performance 6 puck kep clutch plate
spec can hold up to +/- 850nm

suspension

front: fk-coil overs
944 hubs and brake discs
porsche boxster brembo calipers
custom made steering arms/rods
custom made stabilizer bars(cupstrebe
rear: 944 suspension arms and brake discs
porsche boxster brembo calipers
custom made stabilizer bars(cupstrebe)

wheels/rims: steel rims 16inch rear245/45/16 front215/35/16
pre 65 chrome covers

fenders front fully steel: front widened 2,5cm 1 inch
rear widened 6,5cm 2,5inch

fully roll cage incl doorbars
2 gt3 racing seats
4 point belts
omp steering wheel

2002 sti instrument cluster
boost, oil pressure and oil temp gauges.

and much more

i have to do some little things on the interior
and polish the paint
and i need to make a front splitter
because when doing around 200klm (125mph)
it is getting to search on the road a i need to do little
corrections just like in old porsche
when putting a good splitter underneath
i has to do better and i can test it on the autobahn next year
(i'm from holland and live 15klm from the autobahn ;D )

hope you like it

greets

Johan M

Hell yeah! I've seen this on youtube, I just bought a '72 super and am in the process of doing the same thing. I was going to start my build thread when I saw this and had to see what was up.

How are the 944 hubs and rotors to install? I've seen a few kits out there for them, but am curious as what you did specifically. I know I'm going to need new brakes and have been trying to figure out which way to go.

944 rear suspension arms is just bolt on
front
944 steering arms are under mounted on 944 hub a vw is top mounted
so you need to change this
and the bottom ball joint is different size but there are for sale
i you have 944 hubs you can upgrade the brakes to very big
all porsche disc brakes fitt almost on every type off porsche
only calipers have on later model different mountings
you need a adapter for this to if you want bigger calipers the standard 944

Thanks for the info! I'll have to start looking around for parts. How does this thing drive? I assume with very little weight and the boxer engine, it gets going pretty fast.

it drive's very good
only when the streets are wet i have wheel spin to 100klm/h

it pull's really hard
first 3 gear are really unbelievable
the handling is also very good
i have also coil overs in the rear and that helps really good
to keep grip and the front tire's on the road when
accelerating through and out off corners
also when overtaking from out of 1 gear
i have good handling when having full throttle

That's some cool fabrication work you did with the windows. From the vids it looks like it goes like a bat out of hell! I could only imagine how it feels with that power/weight ratio and RWD!

Default Splitter installed and kamei spoiler

Installed a kamei spoiler and made a splitter underneath
For more stable drive at higher speed
Around 180 the car is getting light in the front
When i get enough downforce
I will do a autobahn run soon

**Drools**

Very cool! The interior and the whole car is MaaD! Talk about raising the dead! Soooo much work.

Great work. Seems like a fun car for sure. How's it on gas with the different gearbox and drive? Probably could get insane mileage in that staying out of the fun pedal huh?

The gear ratio is pretty good this engine is running about a 1000 rpm more the the porsche engine that is normally connected so it is short enough but i get still 75mph in second gear
And still very powerfull when the turbo is getting in
