So, I recently purchased an older (maybe 10 years old) LL Bean Gore Tex parka at IME on consignment. When I checked it out in the store, everything was solid. The jacket was good, and the price asked was reasonable. I have been looking for a good hardshell for a while for ski touring and winter hiking.
I got the jacket home, washed it in Tech Wash and when I pulled it out, noticed much of the seam tape had peeled away. Before washing, the seam tape had seemed adhered securely to the inside of the jacket. I have dealt with LL Bean in the past and their customer service has been top notch. The return policy is phenomenal. (http://www.llbean.com/customerServic...guarantee.html) I called, just to see about repairing the shell, and the rep told me that they could't repair it, but if I felt unsatisfied by the product, I could send it back for a refund, or replacement, even though I wasn't the original owner. Now, I have the moral dilema of to send it back or not. I can't return it to IME. I am unsatisfied that the tape is peeling away from the seams, but I don't know if it's Bean's fault at this in the game. Feelings? Ideas? Should I just send it back for a new one?

The item is warranted regardless of changes in ownership. I say turn it in.

That's why they are a top notch company, send it back, no worries.
They're happy you're happy, and you keep purchasing LL Bean products. Everybody wins. o_◊ |

For crying out loud, send it back. There's no moral dilemma here. The jacket failed, they are offering to replace it. What's so hard to figure out.

Your moral dilemma is that you might be causing a massive corporation to give you a free jacket despite the fact that they don't really warranty it anymore?

Moral dilemma
![]() If you have trouble taking advantage of LL Bean's return policy, I suggest you never get a membership to Costco. |

Or REI.
I exchanged three pairs of Salomon shoes over a period of a year, because the first lace loop kept breaking. Never mind the rest of the shoe was shot. ![]() So yeah, maybe I was being a bit exploitative, but for crying out loud those were $125+ shoes that were destroying themselves every three months, and I hardly beat on them. (I'm just a fat ****er.) |

Land's End, where we get a lot of our kids' clothes, gas a similar policy. My wife has sent back pants that our younger son wore through the knee of after 2 years. |
