So, I work for a certain picture taking company, which I enjoy due to being able to do something I love. However, the corporate policy has really been souring my otherwise enjoyable job. As a sidenote, I spent a year and a half unemployed prior to this job and gaining employment at the time I did was something I was greatly relieved about. I literally didn't know how I was going to be able to pay rent and/or put food on the table.

Most of the corporate people are young. They are very agressive when it comes to meeting financial goals. I know that there's nothing wrong with that. However, it is the way they ensure that success that rubs me the wrong way. For example, my regional manager is the essence of wapce. Despite our region being highly profitable, they love to randomly show up at stores (that is her job) and rip managers and employees a new *******.

There is no 'here's what is going wrong and this is what we can do to fix it'. Instead it is more like 'get your **** together right now or you're ****ing fired'. I've heard of this particular wapce showing up to a certain location that is managed by someone who was in their wedding and immediately start screaming at them. Later, they went to lunch together and everything was all buddy-buddy. After coming back to the store, she reamed the manager out again before hitting the road.

Apparently this type of behavior is prevalent throughout the company and said regional manager regularly is dealt with in the same manner by her boss. They look for reasons to fire anyone who doesn't meet expectations.

Fortunately, I had managed to avoid meeting this biotch up until recently. Meeting her reaffirmed everything I had heard: wapce. She's five foot nothing of 100% pure bitch. Unfortunately, I don't deal well with her style of mangement. I was threatened to be fired at least once while she graced us with her presence. Threats don't make me motivated, but they do make me want to knock someone the **** out. Being interrupted from my studio session to threaten me makes me even angrier.

I guess it makes me especially angry because I'm nice person and I don't believe in treating people harshly. I've been busting my ass for this company. I've worked with a fever. I've worked to the point where I lost my voice. I've kept my sales average well above what is required. Is that good enough? Obviously not. In fact, I've tried to be as vague as possible so as not to lose my job (still trying to climb out of debt), because I know that they keep an eye out for things to fire people over (big brother anyone?). Due to how ****ty the economy is and how few jobs are out there that I'm qualified for, I feel trapped and forced to capitulate no matter how furious I feel.

Anyone else have similar experiences? How did you deal with it?

The Picture People is cut-throat, dude!

I suggest you get her on video next time she shows up, and then send it to corporate with a formal complaint insinuating that it will be on youtube if nothing is done. You should have the skills you need to properly frame the shot.

It is actually one of their competitors. I think the corperate people would give the regional manager a high five and then fire my ass.

agree with asi9,

Catch her red handed. If you're branch is as profitable as you say it is, there is no reason you should have to swallow that sort of lecture.

Does your company have a harassment policy?

I would document all interactions in case you end up quitting and filing for unemployment.

[Old School taxi driver guy]

I suggest you stop being such a ******.

[/Old School taxi driver guy]

Seriously dude, you answered your own question. You *need* this job. End of story. What does your employee handbook say about reporting issues with your boss(es)? Can you go directly to the WAPCE's supervisor, or will that get you in trouble, as well?

Agreed with Physics Junkie - document every unprofessional exchange she has with you. Get one of your co-workers to witness, if they were present for it.

Document all of this and in the mean time ignore it since you need the job. Why let it bother you if that is how they act? Just pretend to care when she is around and stop pretending as soon as she is out of sight.

1. Look up local laws about "Hostile work environment"...
2. Compare to your job
3. Contact lawyer and sue..

I guess what bothers me most is that I just understand that sort of behavior. You have to severly and habitually piss me off before I will respond with any sort of hostility.

Most of those places are known for treating employees poorly and threatening to withhold wages if particular "Quotas" aren't met.

just kill everyone there. best case, you feel better. worst case, you end up in jail with a roof over your head and 3 square meals a day. win-win.

Personally if push comes to shove I won't hesitate in executing every single person that pisses me off since it beats the alternative (unemployed and homeless)

Another thing that really sucks is that my manager, when put under pressure and threatened, turns into a wapce despite being an otherwise nice person.

I wish I could just quit, but it is xmas pictures time and I'm am about to make a buttload of overtime that I am going to need to get my head back above water financially.

I will definitely be looking for a less abrassive work environment when the time is right.

sorry to hear about the crappy situation. i'm with you, sometimes, you just need to suck it up and deal.

would it help to bring this up to your manager? maybe mention that she slips into the same wapce category when pressured?

i'm quite fortunate with my boss. we insulate him from the everyday BS, and he insulates us from the rantings of the people he reports to.

Not really. They are 'friends' outside of work and my manager feels that she is just doing her job. I have told her to her face that I think her boss is a bitch and that sort of behavior really makes me upset and does not make me feel valued at all. She shrugs and an imaginary pair of sunglasses slide down her face.

You said you're meeting your sales goals, actually above them? Then question her specifically about the threat to be fired.

If a manager threatened me with termination and wasn't referring to a specific incident(you do that again and I will fire you), but makes reference to performance, without citing an actual performance issue, I'd talk to HR. Tell them you would like them to determine why that comment was made and have it documented if you've not been meeting expectations and to be told why.

Now, if you're in an "at will" state, they can just fire you for this. True. But most companies wouldn't. Because now, while they can fire you, if the complaint has been documented by HR....most HR departments wouldn't want that to occur because they know you could make up some issue as the reason behind your firing and there's a documented HR issue to point to. Even if it's got no merit, it's trouble HR doesn't want to deal with. In most corporations, they'd tell the management to provide a reason why they're terminating you or they will refuse to process it.

1. Deal with it
2. Look for a new job

It doesn't need a thread. Really.

All of the people posting how you can argue with her about whether she has a right to be a bitch to you or whatever are idiots who either are ****ing with you and trying to get you fired or are actually just complete morons who have never had a real job with a boss that is an *******.

There is no FIX IT.

There is no MAKE IT BETTER.

There is only DEAL WITH IT and GET A NEW JOB ASAP.

Slack, you're getting fired for wasting time on NASIOC instead of working.
