Cool Newb: can DR lights be altered?

Bought a Subaru WRX 2013 in August. Manufacturers must have DRLs in the 2013 cars (California only??). The running light is a small LED bulb with two filaments, one for HB and one for the DRL, as near as I can figure from the book and from looking at it. Are there single filament HB lamps in use in the earlier model WRX's--before the DRLs were required--that can be substituted for these in the 2013? I don't want the DRLs at all.

I'm not aware of any law that says the driver of a 2013 car must have the DRLs on all the time -- only that manufacturers are required to install them in new cars.

Any advice would be sincerely appreciated!

Search first, there I said it.

First off they aren't LED, they're just your high beam halogens running at reduced power. Couple ways, pull the front bumper off and the DRL plug is on the passenger side below the air box resonator. Unplug and no more DRL's but high beams still work fine. Or remove air box assembly and go at it from the top. Or pull lower splash shield away following the directions to replace fog light bulbs and you could probably get at it that way but you'd be working blind and have to know what you're feeling around for.

Pull the passenger side vent off the bumper. The plug is right there behind it. Unplug it. Takes literally 2 minutes.
