Default Noisy Winter Tires

Do tires ever quiet down or once they are loud stay loud?

I purchased a set of 1/2 worn Bridgestone LM-25's on ASA 17" wheels for $300. They are extremely loud compared to my well worn Bridgestone RE960's.

I just put on some good winter tires on my Legacy, and they seem to be a lot louder than my street tires I had on previously. I'm guessing that because the treads are not as smooth, the tires will be louder. I can especially hear it good if I roll my driver's window down and I am on a nice newly paved road. I'm guessing that it is completely normal.

Only the WS-xx models are dual compound. The LM-xx (like the LM-25's the OP bought) are a single compound throughout. His will be just fine for a winter or two, depending on the amount of driving he does.

My WS-60's have a pretty noticeable noise to them, but it's a soft slapping hum kind of noise and isn't bothersome in the least, even if it's a bit loud.

Never driven an LM-25, can't comment on the tread noise of those, but typically lots of siping will cause a bit of noise.

winter tires are basically done at 6/32nds...

Also depending on how the tires wore down from the previous car would cause noise if not worn equally.

^^true, although I would still prefer a 6/32 winter over, for example, a summer oriented all season. Hell, even over a plain-jane all season depending on the model.
