Default When is the last time you pulled an all nighter?

I just pulled 2 of em in the past 3 days (and worked a full 8 hours each day) at age 29 and I feel dead. Definitely not as easy as it was in college. Only reason I am still awake is because I need to eat and pack for a trip I am leaving for tomorrow.

What say ye OT? Whens the last time you pulled an all nighter and how old were you?

Kind of when we drove home from florida, i did the lion's share of the driving. rested, but never really slept. After we got home, i had a few beers before bed that night. Between the lack of sleep and the few beers i slept like a rock. I snored so hard the hangy-ball thing in my throat was all enlarged and irritated. I can't remember, but it maybe have been a little bloody too.

So yeah, they're rough and not very healthy to do too often I've heard.

edit: i was 28 if that makes much difference

I had really bad bronchitis two years ago and I didn't sleep for around 36 hours. That was a pretty ****ty few days. I was 30.

Unrelated, but now I can't sleep in past 9am without feeling like I got hit by a truck.

Being a chronic procrastinator, the answer is: "I guess a week or so ago."

I usually wake up early, but it still takes 17 liters of coffee and half a day to get all synapses firing at full tilt. I do my best work between, say, 10:00 pm - 4:00 am. From 4:00 to 7:00 am I'm really just tidying up.

As to the age question: I'm old. I mean, I'm even old according to the government. That old.

I feel like a spry 48-year-old, though!

I did a 30 hour awake shift the day my daughter was born last december. that was interesting due to the fact that I had to go to work and work a 12 hour day after only 3 hours of sleep after being awake for 30.

people were looking at me as if were the walking dead.

I can't remember. Whatever the reason, it wasn't because I had to. It's probably because I just couldn't sleep.

This past February. I raced in a 24 hour mountain bike race. Don't ask why, but I enjoy them.

Did several years' worth, often 10 times per month, just ending recently. More than all-nighters, though - they were usually 30+ hour stretches. The other medical folk know how fun these are.

Do unemployed gaming binges count?

At least 3 times a week, at the moment. I'm only 22, though. I'm not ready to slow down.

I've never done this in college or my professional life. I have stayed up till 6am goofing around, but nothing related to actual "work".

About a year ago when I travelled to a buddy's wedding.

I woke up and worked 9-5 on the west coast, then caught a redeye flight with two layovers to the east coast, landing at 9am. I then drove two hours and drank until about 4am for his bachelor party. I slept for a solid 14 hours when I finally passed out.

My only real all nighter that was memorable was a long time ago, late 80's. I was working at the beach as a high school student and had a job busing tables and doing dishes (one position) at a busy Ocean City Restaurant.

Went out partying all night, until 5AM or so and had to be at work at 6AM, so I stayed up that hour instead of catching zzzzz. When 8AM rolled around it "hit" me, the tiredness and hangover all rolled over into one. We were the busiest we had ever been that day and I struggled to keep up with both the dishes and clearing tables. It seemed as though hours and hours had passed when in reality it was 1 hour, my hangover began to progress for the worse. From that point I swear ever hour that passed felt liked 4 hours, I look at the clock and it read 9:30. One hour later I looked at the clock and it read 9:15 as if the clock was turning backwards. I swore someone was playing tricks on me. Longest day of my life. I pulled a few others since then but without having to work a busy breakfast job busing tables and keeping up with dishes none compared to that horror.

Will Never Do Again. Learned a lesson that day, didn't get off until 5PM. No more all nighters unless I had the next day off with no responsibilities.

I pulled an all-nighter last week to write a paper and presentation. I will be pulling some more for the next 2 weeks.

Bonus points for all nighter + hangover. Seeing as how I haven't slept yet for about 38 hours, your story made me feel more exhausted

I still have to pack

Once a week. I work night shift so my days are always screwed up. I work 8p-8a Sunday - Wednesday so I get off Thursday morning and typically stay up so I can have a normal weekend. Friday is normal, Saturday is normal, then I usually wake up at 8-9am Sunday morning, then go into work at 8pm til 8am. Get home feed/play with the dogs and eat and usually in bed by 11am, 27-28 hour days every Sunday.

Oh yeah and I was 25. I have no idea how I'd feel if I did that now at 31. Something tells me I might handle it better.
