Exclamation Bad gas mileage on my 97 Leg. GT Why?

I have a 97 GT with the automatic trans and I can only get 156 miles to a tank in town the car has done this since shortly after we bought the car new has anyone else had this problem is this normal?Thanks the car only has 26,000 miles on it.This is in town not on the highway.No vheck enging lights at all and car runs and idles smooth.

That would be just about 10mpg with a 15.9gal tank.

Make sure you don't have a leak in the tank.

That sounds dramatic for it to be tunable parts.

How many gallons do you put in the car during a normal fill up?? Your gas gauge may be reading wrong. My 87 GTI did this, when it read 1/4 tank, I still had a 1/2. I found this out after I read the owners manual for the tank capacity and filled up the car when the gage read a tad below empty. There was way too much gas left to be reserve. Not a huge amount of difference, but might help to explain your mystery.

15.9 gallons now the picture comes clear I think I usually put 12 gallons in it to fil it up it seems to take forever for the low fuel light to come on we might be onto something here.I'll have the wife drive it until the low fuel light comes on and we will see what it reads.
