Default JDM engine swap=short driveshaft

So i am puting a JDM turbo Legacy engine in an Impreza and i try to bolt up the drive shaft and its about 3 inches too short. I figure i have to use a Legacy drive shaft but why? Is the Legacy tranny shorter then Impreza?? The center carrier to diff length is OK. Anyone Know??

Are you talking about prop shaft? the one goes from front to rear?
I had the opposite problem.
My car was 2WD and I converted to AWD.
My new tranny is 99RS, propeller shaft/rear diff assy/rear subframe were from old Impreza (93?)
The prop shaft was too long!! I couldn't figure out why? I went to junk yard and bought 99RS prop shaft and it fitted perfect.

Older tranny might have been shorter.

Didn't the JDM turbo legacy motor only have 188hp?

The GT-B makes 280 bhp / 6500 rpm and 249 lbft / 5000 rpm I think the Auto version makes 260bhp.

*Edit*
thats the F 4 DOHC 16v twin turbo, not sure if that's the same engine he was talking about

which section is shorter? BTW the legacy should be longer. As far as I know the Impreza uses the shortest 2 peice driveshaft, followed by the Loyale.

Did the driveshaft come with a CV joint? it could be that they took a legacy rear shaft and a impreza front shaft.

well XT6 is on the right track i think. I got a legacy driveshaft today and its the correct lenght but the carrier bearing is in the wrong place. I am gonna try a hybrid driveshaft using the legacy front half and impreza rear half. this engine is around 220hp.
