Default Budget Turbo on a 2.2

I'm getting ready to start a budget turbo install on our 2000 2.2 Impreza wagon. I'm looking for some basic WRX or STI turbo parts that are in good shape, but cheap. Think real cheap. We're going to first see how cheaply we can do this. $300? $500? What will it take to add a little pressure to our manifold?

Let me know what you've got laying around that you'd like to donate/sell cheaply to the next GRM project Subaru!

Looking for:
TMIC
TD04 turbo
uppipe
downpipe

etc.

Chance are, we'll blow some **** up and then we might get a little crazy with the little purple wagon.

Hmmm... I've got a used (but looks fine with no shaft play) TD0518G that acts as a paperweight lying around my office. $225.00 and a ride in the car before it's permanently broken and it's yours.

What the hell, it'd be a fun turbo on a 2.2!

Default Down pipe

I have the OEM down pipe from my 2003 WRX. Not sure if your would interested in it. If I were you, I rather have a good aftermarket DP. I love your magazine and would love to help. It's yours for free.

I have several good TMIC laying around. Any of the WRX ones you can have for free. Have all the y-pipes, etc with them...even have some brackets if you need them.

I have a couple sets of STI and WRX injectors...let me know which ones you need.

Also have a good TD04 turbo...stock off a 2003 wrx that i would let go for enough money to renew my subscription with. Seriously, you can have it too.

I'll look and see if i have any up-pipes/downpipes that i can part with. Would you be interested in a Megan one-piece header/uppipe with a repairable crack on the d/s flange?

Let me know.

Per,

They are probably scarce down in FL, but see if you can find a junkyard down there that has an older 2.2L Turbo motor out of an early 90's Legacy Turbo. If you can find one, it should be dirt cheap because junkyard owners don't know what they are. That would be a much better motor to start with than the NA 2.2 in the car now. If you are hell bent on throwing a turbo on that NA 2.2, keep the boost low and you should be OK for a little while.

I like how all sorts of people jump in to offer up free (or darn near) parts, and the GRM folks haven't even bothered to say thanks, or even post in their own thread.

GRM, there's plenty of interest in your magazine, even more in your projects, but it's hard to feel like anything other than an afterthought when you ditch this forum for weeks or months at a time.

That's a little harsh, don't you think? We're a small company that has a lot of irons in the fire. It's not practical to be on every board at the same time, especially since we have our own site and our own forum to administer.

If you're looking for an answer to a specific answer to a question, you can always email our staff directly. (firstname@grassrootsmotorsports.com)

We aren't on this message board regularly, but I'm glad to help however I can. Please understand that we're working really hard at delivering magazines and web content for our own site and it's easy to lose track of conversations on other message boards.

Does that seem harsh? You guys asked for free (or cheap) parts, people responded, and you guys ignored them. Do we need to chase you down to offer free parts to help your magazine out? If you are too busy to look in your own thread and respond to people, don't bother asking. I mean, if I ask for help, then don't check back for replies, I'm being a bit rude and wasting the time of those who offer help up. I realize that the high pace of magazine publishing (not being condescending folks, publishing is a bitch) takes up your time, but wasting the time of the rest of us sucks, too.

However, just so I don't needlessly offend you, I'm going to offer something useful, in addition to my harsh comments. If you go to your "user options" in your control panel, there is a checkbox for "Default Thread Subscription Mode" with a checkbox. You can set it up to send you updates on subscribed threads instantly, daily, weekly, or never, or to not auto-subscribe at all. If you set this to instant or daily, and leave yourself subscribed to your own threads, it will send a notification to your e-mail, and you can keep track of what is going on here, without having to log in, and navigate to this thread. The capability is there, if you didn't know it, or how to use it, maybe you learned something today.

I'm assuming you meant to throw a "thank you" to the folks who offered free stuff to help out your project, but were a little too irritated over being criticized to do so. Feel free to re-read through this thread, and thank the following people for offering up what you needed and asked for:

hauntedwrx
aaron2134
goswald79
Squidz
mjackle

Now, you can go away pissed off, muttering about the typical smart mouthed forum jockey who hides behind his keyboard and never has anything useful to say. Certainly you wouldn't be the first person to navigate away from NASIOC with a sour taste. Or you can realize you were offered everything you asked for, more or less for free, just because you asked. I believe you when you say you have irons in the fire, but don't waste a decent opportunity because you're too busy.

I was watching this thread for two weeks, saw the first post and then nothing for ten or so days and then stopped monitoring it after that as I thought it was a dead issue. I then got caught up in the PRI show, deadlines and then the holidays. I should have checked that box to alert me to the replies. Sorry for any aggravation that this may have caused. Thanks to everyone who has offered us parts—I'm working on that project plan and can get back to you in a bit.

I didn't mean to give the impression that I was offended. I appreciate the support of the project, but I'm not directly involved with it so I don't have a whole lot to add to the conversation. We still love you guys (and our Subarus) even if we aren't on this board all the time.

I'm still looking forward to actually doing project updates and making changes to both the Impreza wagon project and our WRX, and hope to share them with the community.

No worries here. You guys have more projects now than I will have in a lifetime. I can see how a few things get overlooked. I've got a garage full of parts, if you need anything just let me know.

You should have single port headers so your going to need custom up/down pipes. So many guys have done this and you can find a bunch of info on rs25.com.

See this thread http://www.rs25.com/forums/f7/t10779...arts-list.html

It will give you the parts and info you want for a cheap, reliable MAP based turbo setup WITHOUT using EM. If you have a MAF setup, you'll want a lower ratio for your RRFPR FMU
