Default Drag wheels and tires

Looking for a drag racing setup for the car....what are some good wheels and tires you'd all suggest? It's going on a WRX, so no Brembos to clear....

you REALLY need to have a spare transmission ready to install....because you WILL---I promise....you WILL blow the transmission

not maybe...you WILL

subarus are not drag cars.....never have been and wrx's blow transmissions with great abandon

so sell the wrx and buy an old fox body and have at it

really you didn't take into consideration that he might already know this or might have a different transmission instore instead of the wrx one? you can run a better transmission and not brembos. seriously i hate when people do things like that. he asked one question, you don't answer him and completely shoot him down like he's an idiot

haha i wasnt going to get nasty, no point but thanks. we already had this discussion with plenty of people. The reason i went with subaru was cause i always wanted one. Just wanted to see an opinion on what people thought about drag setup.

and here is our build thread so far if anyone is interested.http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2088513

I have already made my 9 second passes in a RWD American car.....so we are trying something new. I know it is not a drag car....but it's going to go down that 1/4 many times.....yes it will break....and we have planned for that.

02 wrx wheels are cheap and light, and bf goodrich drag radials will have plenty of traction if you're running AWD

I had this big huge long post written out about how the OP is a ricer with deep pockets.

I read through your build thread. You are unprepared, and completely clueless about what you need to do to reach your goals. If you've run 9 second passes (which I highly doubt), you should already at least have an idea of what wheels and tires will make the cut.

I know what I need, i'm not familiar with a lot of import companies....I know for my car a set of Bogarts or Weld Pro Stars will do it...but for these cars...I don't know. I want to know if there is anything lighter than RPF1's basically. As for tires...yea I know I can use MT ET Streets, but I don't know if these cars react well to having those on all 4.

You can doubt me and question me all you want, I have my experience. I don't have enough and never will, but I am not a ricer with deep pockets. I have built cars from a 800hp Trans am, to an 11 second 2nd generation Camaro, to a 7 second Viper. I am trying something new for a friend (Reclusive) we are not the same person. I came to THIS forum for help on a few things, since I do NOT know everything about these cars, or any cars, but egotistical douche bags like you make people feel unwelcome and unwarrented asking simple questions.

So now back to the question, does anyone who actually has valid input have a real suggestion for a wheel lighter than an RPF1? And what about tires, should I be looking to run a wrinkle wall, or a drag radial?

If you are serious about an all out drag car, you want 15" wheels and slicks.

There was a run of rota 15" drag wheels made a while back, not sure if they still are available.

If the car is going to be fast, you want a taller tire so you can run 4th gear out. Something around 26" would work out.

It's not going to be an all out drag car, but will need some serious drag tires. a 26" is exactly what I was looking out because i want to come through in the traps at the top of 4th.

I was thinking of using an NT555R for now, and once the new turbo goes on a slick, but i'm not sure what slick to run. I have always had a thing for the MH tires.

Mickey Thompson drag radials are just as sticky as ET streets, but they don't have the wrinkle walls so they should be more driveable on an AWD car. SSR wheels are the lightest I've heard of for these cars, the type C being the lightest listed weight I've seen.

There are lighter wheels than the RPF1's, but their structural integrity remains unknown....

That is good to know DrDanimal, I will be going with a radial tire then, I don't think the car will need a wrinkle wall yet. I will look into SSR's thanks a lot!

There are many options available.

For my 07 WRX I can do the following:

1) Buy some 17x7.5 STi BBS wheels 5x100 17lbs and run some hoosier drag radials
2) buys some Konig Daylites 17x7 14.1 lbs and buys some BFG drag radials
3) buys some Konig Daylites 17x7 14.1 lbs and buys some Mikey Thompsons motorcycle slicks
4) buys some heavy 18x8 or light if you have money and buys some Mikey Thompsons ET IIs 245/40/18 IIRC.

I was thinking of some RPF1's with some Nitto555R's for now, and some MT ET Streets for after the turbo...sound decent?

I've used them all in the past on my old nova and camaro.

The M/T et street radial and et street are way better than the nitto.

How fast is this car going to be? You can run into the 11's in a subaru without the need for drag tires.

much quicker than 11's, but starting off we are looking to hit an 11 on stock turbo.

to start you off I would recomend the stock 04 sti wheels that are 5x100 and 17xx7.5 with set of the hoosiers drag radials.

as you get closer to 9's you will then Need full slick on a 15 inch rim.

I am currently looking for a set of 15x8 5x100 rims for my car and its turning into quite a challenge. The 15x8 slipstreams that were made a couple years back are all gone.
