Default Need questions answered from my Legacy guys! (kinda long)

Alright I have a few questions that I would like some info and advice about or just some opinions.
I recently paid off my 01 GT and decided it's time for a new car. The market seems so slim to me for cars I really like. So I am thinking that I will get the 4th Legacy in my streak. So here are the questions. Keep in mind I have a 5spd now and am not impressed with the clutch and issues one bit

Should I get another 5spd or what about this autostick I hear is in the 03's?

If I get another Legacy it will be a Limited. How is the leather I have only had GT's?
What is a remote trunk opener with cancel feature?

IS the cd player that comes in the limited a double sized one? I only got the tape player in my GT so I could change it with a normal cd player and there was a small compartment below it instead of having a big hole. Would I beable to get a compartment either in the limited or could I just buy it?

I think that is all for now... I will have more

maybe it's me, but you've just taken the biggest depreciation hit on your car; why upgrade to a new legacy that's basically the same?
you're going to lose at least $5k, not accounting for financing losses..........
take that money and mod the hell out of your current car, the new ones aren't any faster........

Well sure thats an idea but I have car buying issues.

I had a 2000 GT for 6 months
Now the 2001 for almost 2 years.

It's just time for a new car and unless anyone has any other ideas of what to buy I am stuck with a Legacy

Also I don't see it as a huge loss. The car is paid for and I got 2 years of driving.

Talking CD player

The CD-Player Stereo is awesome in the Limited- We have the same one in the L.L. Bean. Awesome! It looks great and sounds far far better then the standard CD-player in my GT (non-limited) It is a wonderful stereo and a 6-Disk CD-changer. So 7 CD's! Even without "Premium Sound" you will not believe your ears! I upgraded my door speakers, in my GT, to Pioneers 180 watts, much better with my 6-disk CD Changer, but still not up to par with the Bean stereo without premium sound! AMAZING!

I am glad I am not the only one who trades in Subarus for Subarus! Go for it! There is nothing wrong with that. You are correct, there is nothing else on the Market that compares to the Legacy. Get your 2002 or 2003 Legacy now, then if they come out with a Turbo one in a year or two, it will be trade-in time. That Mazda 6 wagon looks great, but will not be out for 2 years. They are releasing the sedan only this January, but no AWD.

There is hope for the clutch issues with Subarus. With the 8 Subarus we've had, only half of them had the clutch studder problem. My GT is perfect, so far, with no issues whatsoever. That is why we got rid of the 2001 Outback. It had that problem big-time!

Are you against the WRX? Just curious.

Best of luck to you finding the exact Subaru you want.

Now there is some input! Thanks a lot Heather.
I will want to change the cdplayer anyways. I like to have toys. I am 22 what can I say. So is it double sized? I assume it is since it has a cassette and a cd player.

I don't know how I feel about the WRX it almost seems like a downgrade in looks/feel but an upgrade in performance.

Keep the input coming please

Talking Double sized

Yes the stereo is double sized with a cassette and a single CD-Player. I believe it also comes with the 6-disk CD-changer which fills up the center console with no silly looking holes in it where it looks like there should be something in there. It looks great at night with the cool green lights. The best looking and sounding stereo ever. Unbelievable. It has Bass, Treble and Mids. I think the mids bring out the voices and instruments sounds so clearly it is as if a band is in your car with you! My GT with the standard sterea, upgraded speakers, subwoofer, tweeters and 6-disk CD Changer still sounds dull and muted next to the awesome stereo in the Bean. It is all Bass (which I do like) but lacks mids and treble, even when set up.

The leather too is good! Really good to have. It is so nice and cozy. You will love it! It has the 8-way seats with the leather which allows for fine tuning. I like to situp straight, and my GT leans back too much for me, but the Bean with the leather seats sits upright and the seats are much nicer by far. Heck, you'd think I love that Bean but with the automatic and the raised suspension- I hate it despite the leather and the stereo.

I agree 100% about the WRX! After test driving 5 of them (I had to be 100% sure!) I still prefer my GT.

Stick with the manual. Try the 2003 model. It will be in Dealership by August- I was promised. I will find a GT wagon in Silver and take my husband to it with the Bean hoping he will trade in the Bean for the GT. I bet he will! We will loss the awesone stereo and the leather since we only buy wagons. We will miss those features for sure!

I will get a 2003 for sure. The deal I will get won't be much higher then the deal I would get on a 2002 and locating the one I want with all the options I want was impossible last time.

So I could see you the radio I get for your GT LOL I won't want it but I wonder if I can get something from Subaru to fit the hole I will create.

Also how about Subaru's perofrmance muffler is it worth the few hundred dollars? I doubt I will get an aftermarker so does it sound any different like they say?

What benefit will you get in trading the car for another of almost identicle specs?

Sounds to me either your just playing around or you have way too much money and you cant figure out what to do with it. I could see if you were getting an h6 vdc or something.

Spend the money you'll lose on the trade on improvements to the vehicle. If you have no intention of changing the vehicle from stock specs get some nice rubber and have a performance alignment done.

Talking Performance Muffler

About the Subaru Performance muffler- the only person I know (well I don't know him, but he posts here) who had one is RandyF. You could PM him about it. If I recall he said he did not like it and thought it was a waste of money. He got the Stromburg muffler with the dual exhaust instead. I recall he had a hard time fitting it under the bumper- but please ask him. I had the same question myself and he was the only one to answer it.

Everyone seems to want me to keep my car but I have no real desire. There is more to the story about why I don't. I don't like the black to many chips. I plan on buying a house in less then 2 years and would rather get a new car now and not have to worry about it when I spend all my money on a house and there are other reasons but those are the biggies.

I also see the point of why buy the same car I have done that twice already but the options suck out there and I want a new car. Oh the confusion

but thanks everyone!

I still dont know what I can do about the hole when I remove the cd player

Aftermarket stereo places sell those little cubby shelves to fill the hole. My '98 GT had the factory AM/FM cassette with the seperate CD player. I replaced it with just an AM/FM CD player and they put a shelf in the hole. It looks factory. I would think you could get one from Subaru as well.

I really want the little fold up thing that my GT has. Maybe I will take a pic. Its a lil filler with a flip up lid. It looks real nice in the place but thanks for the ideas

I didnt understand your post completly but I now wish I didnt reply at all. I hope messages like this dont become the norm of the I-club legacy forum.

You remember incorrectly about what I said to you.

Dont you think its a little more than coincidence that you and him get along so well? Your situation with the bad handling of the car and how others told you that it was the wrong platform to start with is what comes to my mind.

Others may jump on me for saying it but I really think your discussions would be better suited for another forum, perhaps something along the lines of "newcarbuyers.com" forum (i just made that up).

Im not trying to be mean, just telling you the real deal. I would bet many starting reading this topic and just got bored of it, seeing it as a waste of time. My error was in responding.

2001LegactGT:

Realize you are FAR better off getting the car with the base audio system and purchasing a 6 disc in dash from another user who has decided to remove his. The price these days is between 150-210 shipped. I know because believe it or not I have purchased three.

Id suggest the auto. It seems that time and again subaru has spent more time upgrading both the electronic controls and the transmission itself when compared with the 5 speed.

You want suggestions on what else to buy but you give no requirements. Without knowing Id suggest either a fully loaded Mini Cooper S (for say 22k with every option) or an H6 VDC.

I had one. It sounds mildly different, but not worth the money, in my opinion. It's very heavy, and just didn't satisfy what I was wanting from my exhaust. Keep in mind, though, that mine was an early version, and didn't have the midpipe with it. Maybe with the midpipe and muffler section it would sound better.

Atleast some of you are being helpful and I think you for that.

Also I do not want a 6disc I want to put my own cd player in there and not have a big hold.

I am sorry if my thread if a big waste of space on the i-club but I had a few questions.

Not a waste of space, many would be able to answer your questions but the idea of trading a 2001 legacy gt for a 2002/3 limited pretty much kills normal discussion.

Honestly you would have been better of asking the questions about the car without mentioning the trade in.

So if you dont want the 6 disk I guess the answer would be that subaru has used a double din opening in all the vehicles since forrever and a day, you will either have to get a single din radio and a single din spacer or buy a dual din radio.

First let me say I don't really care if you keep your car or trade in. I just want to give a fellow Legacy owner a little advice. You have a MY01 that is paid off that is great! But here is where you stop making sense.

Quote:

If you plan on buying a house in the next 2 years than save the $12-15k for your house not a MY03 Legacy. See if you do that you could save up even more money for a BIG down payment or a bigger house. If you go for the BIG down payment than you could pay your house off early and buy a Porshe. You could also put the money in a CD, money market, ect. for a few years than you would have more money to spend on a new car.

I personally think you would be better saving for a house or waiting to see if a Legacy T comes out in the next 5-6 years.
But hey its up to you. So do what makes you happy. That is really more important than anything else. I think there is something to be said for people that spend wisely. All of us here are guilty of not being wise.

I am amazed of the controversy that has become of this thread.

I am going to buy a car there is no way around that and it's not really a thing about buying a house. I will have the money I want for the house saved. My car payments on the Legacy were only a little over 200 anyways. So it is not as if I would be saving an extra fortune.
I paid off that 2001 in less then 2 years not bad for a 5 year loan LOL but again thats not the point.

Sure it may not be the wisest thing I ever did but I don't see it hurting me that much.

And ciper I did not say any specifics that I want but it seems kinda obvious to me. I have had 3 Legacy's and didn't say I wanted to drift otherwise but thanks for the info. Also I drove a mini S for the hell of it and it was impressive but not for the winters around here. I live in a bad snow area

DUDE! Then you need to get the H6 VDC! Its available in sedan form as well!

It has the variable torque split center differential (only offered in the wrx otherwise). This car has a similar traction system (although not as nice) as the Lancer if your unfamiliar with it.

The power is awsome, compared to the wrx.

H6:
212 @ 6000 RPM HP
210 @ 4400 RPM TQ

WRX:
227 @ 6000 RPM HP
217 @ 4000 RPM TQ

Now add the traction control of the VDC and the smooth power curve of the H6 and thats one mean machine.
