Default 2005 Impreza 2.5rs metamorphasizing into WRX

My story:
So I bought this subaru in 2007 after selling my 06 silverado. I really didn't know to much about subaru's and/or working on cars in general but you tend to learn quick if you're passionate about it. I did some simple mods to the car when it was still N/A like full custom catless exhaust, intake and little things like that. So I was debating on selling the rs to get an 09 WRX but decided the insurance, huge car payments were not the way I wanted to go. One of my friends bought a wrx from a local and decided to swap a JDM ej22 into it with a 20g turbo and the works. He had the ej205 out of that car, I bought it from him for 300 bux and from there started gathering everything I needed to swap it into my impreza. 6 months later, I pulled the ej253 out of my car and sold it to a fellow rs25'er. Took me about 3 months to get the car running again due to my poor planning and lack of parts. I did not have much know how on building engines let alone swapping a whole car! Mid september of 2009 the car was finally driven on a regular basis and got a base map tune on it. Still waiting for the final tune from a local who is a genius. He had is 03 wrx running a custom made tune puhing 373 whp/383 ft.lbs running on meth. I am very excited to get the tune on there to see what this can do.

What are you going to do about the wiring, find a complete WRX wiring harness and just swap it in or merge?

looking for the complete harness. That is the plan as of now. I am building the motor (I am replacing all new gaskets) and then getting it all ready to drop in. Probably, early april if I get everything ready, I'll take it to one of my friends shops and we will start the teardown to get the wiring done. That way everything will be ready for the drop in.

I guess it all depends on what I find to swap over and how much I want to upgrade the motor before the swap. Might as well get as much done to it (performance wise) before it goes in the car.

yes that is the plan...goin very sleeper.

I have the front mount, but I am debating on painting/powdercoating the intercooler tubes black or leaving them polished.

I am also keeping the stock wheels, but I will be dropping it a bit and getting some new sways. Thats what the plan is for now.

Been awhile since I updated, I need a bulkhead harness!!!!!!!!!!!! I just bought the timing belt and ecu, I finally got the oil pump. Question though for everyone....

Ebay replica headers? worth it, Honestly 150 bucks is pretty cheap, but the replica headers I bought for my 2.5rs work really well. I dont wanna waste money on cheap headers, up-pipe and downpipe if they arent worth it.

Let me know...and yes I searched, and I couldnt find to many reviews about the ebay stuff.

I also ran across some new wheels that im going to pick up locally...here they are.

ATS DTM's 17x7 with cooper zeon tires....$450 bucks
i would like to paint them bronze, or gold...i cant decide

worth it?

Cool

This week is it, with a lot of help from nasiocer's I gathered all the parts I needed to get the car ready for swapping. My wiring harness will be here on tuesday, and thats the last piece.

There is a guy on rs25 that wants to buy my stock ej253, so hopefully that will give me the motivation I need to start the teardown. I am replacing the head gaskets and timing belt on my ej205 tomorrow and then getting it assembled hopefully sunday and monday. I took a weeks vacation off work to get the bulk of this done, but I think it will end up taking about 3 weeks. I will start the detailed photo journal tomorrow once I pick up the ej205

Default head gaskets and timing belts are a bitch!

So got all the parts in my garage now, i just need to get the build going. I was moving the motor the other day and my friend slipped and dropped the motor and it broke the drivers side exhaust cam gear. Yeah for me! now I need to replace that before I can go any further. If anyone lives in evansville, in: come do my head gaskets!!!!

So here is the update.....Wednesday 7/8/09 I should be dropping the engine in this car and then I am waiting on a tune for it to be completed. I finished installing the wrx wiring harness and put the interior back in. So I am so close to being done. Here is the list of mods on the car when done.

Engine:
Perrin Turbo Inlet
Ebay style Intake
TGV deletes
Unorthodox Racing Crank Pulley
Ebay TMIC y-pipe
Homegrown PnP/coated factory exhaust manifold
Grimmspeed EBCS
Grimmspeed exhaust gaskets (all of them)
Grimmspeed Intake Mani gaskets
Ebay catless Up-pipe
Catless coated down-pipe (no name brand, came with engine)
Borla 3" CBE

Transmission
Stock 2.5rs 5 spd
Exedy Clutch and flywheel
Redline tranny fluid

Exterior:
WRX/Sti Hood w/sti scoop
Painted stock 16"
Hankook tires 215/55r16

Interior:
AC delete for now!
Some sort of clock pod gauges (dunno yet)

My wife took the digital camera with her to her military training in seattle so I didnt get any pics of the swap process thus far

More to come, and once I blow this stock clutch/flywheel I will either upgrade to a really nice one or get a different tranny setup

So I am dealing with *HOPEFULLY* my last issue, the radiator...I want to keep the stock one but I dont know if it would be a good idea to splice the rs plugs to my wrx harness. I am checking my options in the morning. I had a wrx radiator for 40 bucks but the seller found out it didnt have fans so Im back to square one with that.

I finished the swap today, drove it home, seems to run alright I guess it had some kinks to work out because it is driving better and better each time I start it up. I still need to get a tune and splice my speed sensor because my speedometer isnt working and my miles arent being recorded. But atleast it drives. I will put a video and pics of it up as soon as my camera gets home.
