Talking STI Break-in Period

I just picked up my STI today! 2011 Satin White Pearl sedan. I have winter rims and tires (Continental XtremeWinterContact) on it, no Sport-tech package.

I have only driven it for 80km, but I am really liking it so far.

The salesperson at the dealership told me there is no break-in period and to drive how I would regularly drive right from day 1. I was skeptical and have been mindful to keep it under 4k RPM thus far, however, I just flipped through the manual and did not see anything about a break-in period.

Is it true that there is no break-in period with this vehicle? I don't need to worry about going past 4k RPM?

The salesperson is almost (but not always) a completely ignorant tool who knows less about your car than you do. Assuming you know nothing, that is. Don't ask them, they really, really don't know. The saleschump who sold me my first (07 STI) told me the full size spare was under the floormat in the trunk.

Call the dealership and ask a service writer. PM Rexygirl (she works in a reputable dealership) and ask her. Get the correct answer. Previous years were <4,000 RPM for 1,000 miles.

Thanks Moneym. I looked through the owner's manual more closely and I see that section 8-2 does recommend break-in driving procedures during the first 1,000 miles / 1,600 km.

To summarize:
- Do not allow the engine speed to exceed 4,000 rpm except in an emergency
- Do not drive at one constant engine or vehicle speed for a long time
- Avoid starting suddenly and rapid acceleration, except in an emergency
- Avoid hard braking, except in an emergency

As for your question, I was fortunate enough to find a dealership that had a car in stock, so I did not have to order it. I originally wanted Spark Silver, and the sales rep said that it could take as long as 4 months to put in an order for a silver one and receive it here in Canada.
