Hi everyone,

I want to give you a brief street-based review of the GT Spec and Whiteline components now that I've had a chance to drive the car around town for about 350 miles. As a refresher, we've installed nearly the entire GT Spec and Whiteline catalog on our 2011 STi sedan, however, the shocks are still stock with just some drop in TEIN S-Tech springs. Obviously, the shocks leave something to be desired, but here are my impressions nonetheless.

Even on stock shocks, the car's chassis is transformed from washy and unstable to very firm and tight. Gone is the overall slop and play of the OEM bushings and arms. The car now tracks straight and true with very little input from the driver. Body roll has been reduced and staright line manners have not been sacrificed. It's also important to note there is ZERO increase in noise, harshness, rattles, or anything else of that nature. It's tight and quiet as a church mouse.

That said, we are really looking forward to installing the JRZ RS1 coilover's which are really the centerpiece of our suspension system. As a preview we just installed the first set of JRZ RS1's on the Forged Performance 370Z and the improvement is literally night and day compared to the TEIN Monoflex's that were on the car. The car changes directions like a go kart with no body roll whatsoever yet is extremely compliant in a straight line for daily driving purposes.

Once the JRZ RS1's are installed and dialed in, I'll be retesting the STi at Road Atlanta in March. I am really looking forward to what kinds of laptime improvements we see.

Now back to working on the exhaust...

Hey, will you allow "by-standers" at the track when you guys go out in March? I'd love to be out there when you guys make your runs.

Of course!

We always have a really nice crowd with us at the track. Follow us on facebook and we always let people know of when we will be at the track. We are usually racing 4 days a month.

Are you guys going to give any hints on the exhaust? Knowing that it's got to flow pretty well, i'm sure you're going to make it streetable, so just me guessing, I'm thinking something along the lines of what AMR did, but maybe with more thicker mufflers/resonators?

When will you be tuning the turbo set up on the stock internal engine?

Also you mentioned that you had a build engine on its way...when will that be arriving and when will you have numbers for that?

Has the car even been fired on the new turbo set up? I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to see video of this thing...Im sure it would be greatly appreciated from the many people religously watching this thread

We wont be posting dynos until the car is tuned with the exhaust. I've already tuned the basics on low boost and stock exhaust and I've been driving it around for about a week. It's less laggy than I expected, and it's only going to get better. I appreciate everyone's patience, but in addition to building this project car, we also have 40 other active projects we are tending to. And last week's snow storm put us a bit behind.

The exhaust will be 3 inch, merge into two and looking at mufflers and tips right now. If the design and testing goes well, we'll likely offer a production version as well. Objectives are maximum flow (enough for 650-700whp), while keeping a reasonable exhaust note.

Yes, we will be up there with Chin Motorsports, and NASA this year, along with the UTCC. I don't have the exact dates at my fingertips, but VIR is my all time favorite track. I have over 1000 laps around that place, and it still keeps me excited.

So I was curious, what's that sensor on the rear dif?

When you say 3" to 2", you mean single 3" to dual 2" right?

LOVE that paint color, wish it were available on the 2011 WRX though.

The OEM tune had horrible power, response, and driveability. Our Stage1 (for bone stock cars) custom mapping is completely a night and day experience. Not only is there massive trq and power improvement everywhere, but the tip in and part throttle AF ratios are much safer than the OEM tune. If you drove the car, you'd also find the throttle response is vastly improved. Gone is the non-linear lazy OEM throttle response as I completely remapped all of the throttle tables.

How dangerous is the stock tune? I was wanting to stay stock for awhile. But now I'm alil worried that a stock car is going to blow up. I'm not driving around redlining every gear or anything, it's my dd

i love this car, but it's not possible to increase the durometer of every bushing in the car plus springs not have an impact on noise, vibration and harshness. it's physics. now sure, new well lubed bushings don't squeak but you can't tell me that a freeway expansion joint at 75 mph or a pot hole on city streets feels anywhere near soft and enjoyable. tolerable...more than likely. that's fine for enthusiasts, me included.

been there and done that. not hating, trust me. GREAT car!

Now this car you are creating is an absolute monster. i love the dedication to high quality with a track comparison. that is a great measure of understanding gains and standing behind them. kudos.

looking forward to the track results!
