I really only throw the deuce up to modified WRXs or STis. In Washington literally every third car is a Subaru Outback or Forester. If I tried waving every time I saw a Subaru, it would get old real quick and everyone who just uses them as a car wouldn't get it.
Did this on my zx6r as well. People on bikes tend to do it to every bike rider of all makes and models though

Love the wave when riding the motorbike, but it seems to be a dying art. I don't know if it is because of a lot of newbie riders, or their are a lot more elitist attitude riders.

I live in Jersey, and get prob. at least 1 wave a day. I feel like I own a Harley. I love it, and tell people about this and there always like...Really?? Look a brotha out, and respect the knowledge of a subie owner bc let's face it, we're the only ones that can actaully drive out there. :-)

Do you guys find this happening alot? I think it is awesome because my school has at least 5 WRX/STI's and we always wave at each other when we drive by.

Never once has another Toyota Camry driver waved at me when I drove the '96 Camry or another RX350 owner wave at me when I drove the Lexus RX350. I wonder if Evo/Lancer owners wave at each other too...

So anyone else ever waive at another Subaru driver only to get a funny look and realize you aren't driving your Subaru? Or even driving at all?

never. I also dont look around feeling inadequate to see who is looking at me.

IF anyone has waved ive never noticed.

i will say that every non turbo subaru drives like a jack hole and always attempt to cut me off or show me how slow their car is.

I try to signal to all Subaru vehicles, but WRX/STi owners seem to signal back more frequently. Wave, lights, whatever - it's relatively uncommon I get a reaction other than the 'WTF' look. Unfortunate, but it makes getting a wave back more exciting when it does happen!

When I first got my 2.5i I was at a light and a guy in a same MY wrx pulls up gave me a thumbs up and says nice car. I said the same to him. There was also another member on this forum that gave me a nod. Nothing since. Nobody likes NAs I guess.

I didn't get many waves with the 08 legacy but with my 2010 WRX I get them all the time from other WRX's and STI's....
I love it.
Everytime it happens my wife asked me
"Who was that" and I will say ..." Not a clue but he/she drives an awesome car"

I almost always wave.
People dont always wave back.

I kinda go with the hood scoop rule. Wave if theyve got a scoop. (which includes legacy's and foresters)

Sometimes people just look at me like im some sort of a weirdo... haha

My rule is that I wave at every Subaru with a hood scoop because they're usually enthusiasts who wave back but I have a bad track record with Legacys waving back; in that, they don't. Guess it's all random who waves back and not necessarily the model.
