Default Ironing out the kinks

I picked up a 2011 Subaru STI sedan a couple weeks ago. While I really like it, there have been some problems. I will take the car in to the dealer to have these resolved, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced or heard of something similar and knows of a possible fix:

1. Today when I was driving home I looked down at the dash and the ABS, traction control, and hill start lights were all on, solid yellow. At the next red light I shut the car off and started it again and the lights were gone. About 5 minutes later they came on again and I left them on to my destination.
When I started the car 2 hours later and drove home they stayed off. I have a feeling they came on when I accelerated somewhat quickly (staying below 4000 RPM), but I am not sure.

2. The lock/unlock on one of my key fobs works intermittently, the other key fob works every time, as it should.

3. At low RPM under load there is a rattle that sounds like it is from the front area, sounds like it could be a heat shield on the exhaust.

4. There is a rattle in the passenger side door that I hear with the bass from some songs and certain talk radio. If I press the passenger door handle towards the door, the rattle disappears.

Thanks in advance for any ideas/input!

2. My fob is a little tricky on the unlock button, but not enough I've ever worried about it. Yours sounds more serious.

3. If it's more high pitched, they will probably say it is the intake and there is a service bulletin for that. If it's lower and deeper, it is probably a heat shield. If you don't already know, you are probably going to be fighting heat shield rattles throughout your ownership.

4. Yep, both doors on mine do the same, I think this is pretty normal. They will prob take the door card off and secure the cables in the door that are rattling back and forth between the card and seal. I didn't, and still don't, ever plan to take my car to the dealer for things that involved taking the doors or dash apart. My belief is they didn't build the car, and they are more likely to not put it back together as well. If I wanted it fixed, I'll do it myself. But you are perfectly right to expect the car not to do that and take it in under warranty. If you plan to upgrade the speakers, I would have it taken care of then.

4. Guys, there is a TSB to repair the rattling speakers. Turns out they didn't properly secure some wires which rattle. Take it to the dealership to be fixed.

Lots of threads on this topic.

1. I have an 09 wrx sedan which had the dash light issue you described, it is the result of a faulty brake light switch. I had to take mine in twice for this, they replaced the switch the first time and while it was in that time, they did not realize the switch was held in place by a one time use clip and they broke the clip so I had to bring it in a second time for that to be replaced since they didn't have it in stock, but it was a ok after that. It does actually turn your abs and traction control off when those lights come on so be careful in slippery weather until they take care of it. Good luck.

I also have the door rattling, guess I'll make a trip to the dealer.

My key FOB seems to work perfect.

Thanks for the responses!

Nobletea, I see where you are coming from, and I am a little hesitant with them taking the door off too. However, I think I will get them to look at it, especially as seems to be a known issue.

I have my doubts that they will replace the key fob because it is a periodic problem. I'll see what happens, I guess I have a lot of warranty time left to get that replaced eventually.

The ABS/Traction/Hill Start lights never came on again, but I have an appointment tomorrow. I will still go in and they can take a look at it, I am not sure if anything will come out of it. I wonder if there is a record of those lights being triggered? Thanks Subirex09 for the info regarding the brake light sensor, sounds like the exact same issue I had.

Thanks again everyone.

I went to the dealership on Friday and here is what happened:

1. (re: traction control, ABS, hill start lights staying on) The person at the dealer said there was a record of those lights coming on a couple times and he told me they could have come on if all four wheels lost traction. That strikes me as very strange for two reasons, the first is because I was not driving around on ice or pushing it so hard that all four wheels with winter tires would have lost traction. Secondly, when those lights come on those systems are deactivated, so if all four wheels lose traction, then my traction control, ABS and hill start will shut off!? It seems to me that situation would be one where I would really need ABS and TC, they should not just shut off!?

I am not sure if that is accurate, has anyone heard that before? He told me if they come on again to go back and they can look into it further, they haven't come on in a week but I don't buy the current explanation.

2. (re: broken key fob) They replaced my key fob, it works properly now.

3. (re: small rattle) I decided not to mention it because it is too minor. I didn't want them hooning around in my car under the guise of trying to find a rattle. If it gets louder I will eventually say something.

4. (re: rattle in door) They said my speaker is broken and they ordered a new one that should come in a week or so.

Overall I am quite pleased, just not satisfied with the resolution to the first issue regarding the warning lights.
