Default correct fitment crew help!

hey guys im looking to buy summer wheels and I want the RIGHT answer... like anything else theres a right and theres a wrong... months and months of reading and hearing people being bashed on these forums I think ive got somewhat of a solid understanding when it comes to wheels fitment and offset. so here it is 2005 wrx tein coil overs camber plates are going to be ordered this weekend... but I would like to know whats the widest wheel and (lowest? smallest number) offset I can run... I have 04 bbs and 17x 7.5 are good for winter but I want something wider for the summer... so whats the widest tire and offset I can use on my wrx (correct fitment) so i can get the MOST out of my wrx in the summer...

OH btw I am thinking 18 inch wheels

if you want function, get 17's.

17x8 +45-48 is a very popular (and functional) size for the wrx, with a wide range of tire options to choose from.

i cant do 17X8.5? I can deal without using 18's so 17 is fine but only .5mm wider might as well just stick with bbs and swap my tires every season haha... but I look at track cars and their tires are always super wide and im sure thats beneficial since well theyre all about performance... I dont want to do 17 x 9.5 thats a bit ridiculous but yeah basically where I can get the MOST grip and MOST performance... but if ur saying 17x8 + 45 is where its at then ill believe you until other people chime in and I do some more reading.

if you want 18s, buy 18s, if you want 8.5 width BUY IT. they will fit and youll be happy. it all depends on offset.. volk usually offers 44et with a 8.5 while rota offers 48et.. so anywhere between there is subaru fitment with little problems..

i also suggest something other than teins.. like KW V3 or V1 if you dont have the cash

my tein flex's ive had for a couple of years... they handle like im on rails! i find nothing wrong with them and when i was going to purchase them I did some research and a lot of people had positive feedback on them... care to share any info or insight?

and yeah I mean I figure if I stay within the offset specifications then I should be fine...

so how does offset effect the handling characteristics of the car? I know incorrect offset can cause premature wear and tear on supporting parts. but how does it effect the handling and is there benefits going outside the scope of the OEM specifications of the offset

8.5 width in the et44-48 range with a 235 tire you should be able to pull off with no roll. 245 may fit, but it depends on the tire, some tires 'run wide'. You will also have an easier time fitting 35 aspect ratio (instead of 40) if you're going 18" wheels.

All of this assuming you have a sedan, if you have a wagon than 8" 225 is the max without a roll in the rear.

Personally I would not go 35 on a 235 width. Just not enough sidewall for my liking. When you start getting into the 255 and above is when a 35 is really needed.
