better gas mileage, $10k less and more money saved to modify it as you see fit

I went with a WRX - premium hatch with short shifter. I only use it as a DD, and it was my first Scooby. Totally happy with it, and its a lot more fun to drive up here in the PNW than the Mustang GT I had before this.

Didn't feel like I could justify the extra $$$ for the STI, and there wasn't a lot of choice of either due to the quake earlier in the year. I occasionally wonder if I should have stepped up to the STI, though. A couple of folks at work have newer STIs, so I see them every day in the parking lot.

Every time I bitch about the price of a car here in the US, I remember how insanely more expensive they were back in Australia and then I don't feel so bad.

Where's the budget at now xluben??

^^ His WRX is the example of why you don't need an STi. Save the 10 grand and throw it all in aftermarket parts. (plus 10-20 more )

Price.

WRX has enough power to get going and a couple thousand more in parts are needed on both cars (accessport/intake/maps/mudflaps/shifter bushings/JPM coachworks/stereo) no matter which I got.. so the price is was the factor.

I also drive a wrx limited. It is my DD, never going to take it to the track or off road it . I definitely agree that the sti is a better race car , but realistically a stock wrx is so fast that for normal everyday driving what more could you ask for? I test drove both cars prior to buying and loved the sti but I really didn't want the 6 speed tranny with all the additional shifting required nor did I want the ridiculous wing on the back of my car. I never have had an ounce of regret about purchasing the wrx over the sti. I have a dd which I love and that is easy to drive sanely and also is faster than almost any other car on the road . The wrx is an amazing , great handling vehicle that is more than adequate for any driving situation in any climate . I

Agreed, but this thread is about 2011+ wrx. However this debate will rage on for eternity.

Bought a WRX over the STI:

1. Cheaper, can't really justify the extra cost for a DD,
2. Like the 5 speed, (my hobby is not changing gear)
3. Ride is really good, comfort over performance,
4. Better insurance rate (mine is also a hatch, supposedly that is a bit cheaper still),

Regrets (minimal):
1. An STI badge would look cool, (meh)
2. If I do ever track it, I'll probably want the STI stuff anyway,
3. WRX is too quiet (to be modded near future)

Apart from the tiny potential future slight regrets above, I'm happiest with the WRX. Still pretty much stock and still barely using more than 1/2 throttle even driving 'hard'. More than enough car for me.

That has already been proven to be a government conspiracy, much like 9/11.

Wake up sheeple.

In other news it has been discovered that WRX vs. STI threads are the leading cause of eye cancer.

It's the government trying to get people to drive more fuel efficient vehicles.

STi has more fun toys. WRX is cheaper

You ask this question as though there are no after market parts available for either vehicle. Are you forever stuck with either or? Buy one and mod it to your taste

You guys are answering a question asked 2+ years ago. I think OP has made a decision by now. This thread is now a troll thread until it is locked. Please, only trolling in here, or you can get out.

STI is a superior platform from the get-go. I don't understand the point of all these threads. Everyone knows which is "better". If you won't use the extras, don't get them. Face it, you're not going to get the same attention in a WRX as you will in an STI for the simple fact that its an STI. If you're ok with that, great. What is the point of constantly arguing which is better or which one you should buy? Seems to me most of these threads are insecure WRX owners trying to justify to the world that their WRX's can hold there own. And in a lot of cases, they can. But seriously, buy what you can afford, or what you like, or whatever you want. The STI isn't more money for no freakin reason.

I hate EVERYTHING about this ridiculous, blast from the past, overly hashed thread, except for this one post (and the cat):

Everyone picks either platform for their own reasons. I just want 716-WRX to know that our minds think alike, right down to the PBP color -- obviously the best color available.

I bought an STi and immediately a supermodel asked me to marry her and I said no so she just gave me piles of money and said I was dreamy.

I test drove a WRX and only got some lame stale popcorn from the dealership.

STi wins.
