The WRX is a better choice for someone who doesn't plan on anything more than some spirited on ramps and such.
Based on my autox experience the wrxs are just as fast as the stis. It's ridiculous to say the wrx is for people who only want to do pulls on onramps.

In stock class the STI probably performs slightly better but it's still a drivers and tires game. STU? Dead equal.

Really? This says the STI is slower, doesn't brake from 60 as fast, and barely outhandles the GR WRX. Hmmmmmm.....

^WARNING: a majority of my posts in this ****sore of a thread should not be taken seriously.

I traded in my 12 WRX for a 13 STI and my johnson instantly grew 4 inches and my wife's rack grew two cup sizes. I can also ice race now and autox like a boss. Worth it.

I kept the extra 10k and used it for booze, drugs and hookers.

i didn't want to live with regrets that i settled for a wrx, and didn't want to hear people ask me why i didn't purchase the sti instead. i see too many people TRY to justify themselves as to why they bought a wrx over an sti, and i just did not want to be one of those people.

Well, since this thread isn't going anywhere anytime soon, might as well revel in it.

So let me get this straight, you bought the STI to save face in front of other people's opinions? No one has ever asked me in real life why I didn't go STI. And if they did, here's how I imagine the convo would go--

Some person: "Hey man, why didn't you go all out on the STI?"
Me: "Because go **** your mother, that's why."

Now before anyone says "e-tough guy", I'm not. I'm a touchy-feely shrink who walked into the dealership with a bank check to order a STI and drove off with a WRX Limited. No one else's opinion on that decision will ever get a single **** outta me.

They've asked me. I most often get asked that when I'm parking it, or getting something out of it, at a track day. My response is, "It's the daily, that's the track car," as I point to the other car. That seems to resolve it.

i should've been more clear on my post. my first subaru was an 07 STi (obviously)...i wouldn't move down to a WRX as i have already experienced what the STi was like.

Yup that's it, and what makes this debate so asinine. You made a decision based on your own opinion. Others opinions about your purchase don't matter at the end of the day. And that includes my opinions too.

Understanding what led to decisions, what drives those opinions, can help someone make a decision. Buuuut.... alas, that's often not what we get around here. We get flame and insult wars about which car is "better" rather than discussion of features and which features suit which needs. Oh...well.

Oh, thanks for the heads up. I didn't know the STi...

Gets better gas mileage
Smoother ride.
Costs less.
Cheaper to insure
Comes with sunroof on lower model.

Different is not better.

But those people's opinions don't matter, ESPECIALLY not in your case.

Touché, an astute observation. I'll admit, there are some gem posts expressing objective opinions for both vehicles. But those good posts have come and gone, which is why I still say:

My response to those ignorant folks is the WRX is lighter, faster, it's handling limits are within fractions of the STI, and tends to get about 20% better mpgs than the STI. Their response is "Really? I just assumed the STI better because it cost more." My response is then, "Yes, the STI is the better performance car overall, but I couldn't justify the extra $6,500-9,000 for such little in return."

That confuses them even more

Nobody's last words in life were "thank god I drove a Camry." There is more to life than penny pinching. Averaged over the year the STI may cost a couple hundred more in gas

Smoother ride.
I have coilovers on mine, I would have done this to a WRX as well

Costs less
in my situation it was no where near the 10k BS people throw around here

Cheaper to insure:
marginal at best

Comes with sunroof on lower model
who wants added weight up top with less headroom?

Different is not better.
The extreme sarcasm of the post went right over your head didn't it. I thought it was pretty obvious it wasn't serious since it was posted right after someone saying this thread needs to be closed. I did a little quoteception there so you can see the progression of my asinine comment.

I am the #3 on scooby's list up there. I just enjoy **** disturbing these pointless threads. Please see my responses to your list in the quote.

Why did I choose the STI over the WRX? Because it was available. I was actually in the market for a new WRX but couldn't wait the 6 months for the order, so I was lot shopping. Well I found a used STI with 6k on the clock for not much more than a WRX. So I jumped on it. Am I happy with it? Yes. Do I now wish I got the WRX? No. Would I have been happy if I found the WRX I was looking for. Yes.

That's all these stupid threads come down to. Are you happy with your current car? If yes then why try to put the owner down of the other model saying one is superior? Who honestly gives a ****?
