Default 02 RS swap questions and options

I'll start with the car:
02 Subaru Impreza RS2.5 5spd 230K

I am going to swap an 05 STi engine (STi transmission to be swapped in the future)

Questions
how difficult will it be to connect the STi harness to the rest of the RS components?

feel free to answer one question or all the questions (please reference the question number with the corresponding answer) Thanks

I know some people that have a shop in north Jersey that do it all the time but its alot of work and not very easy to start splicing wires. ( http://www.brokenmotorsports.com/ ) They usually get a wrecked car that goes along with the car thats getting the transplant. Alot of extra parts aside from just the trans & motor. They swap the entire harness over to avoid serious headaches with splicing and sensors etc. Youd also have to swap the rear, drive shaft, axles, mounts, intercooler, computer, exhaust etc..

Questions:
1. how difficult will it be to wire the motor?

easy if you have the entire STI wiring harness. I don't know how the RS wiring harness will do alone with the STI motor. I think it would save you a big headache to just get the whole harness to the rear seat. Then you don't loose AVCS, you can use the STI HVAC, and you don't have to use a different DCCD controller.

2. will I get trouble codes without the STi transmission in the car?

You won't be able to use DCCD of course. Why not just do it all at once? It'll make things alot easier...

3. what will have to be rewired on the car side of things (this may be answered in questin 1)

I would just use the whole wiring harness. But I'm pretty sure there's ways around it, but in the long run I personally am glad I just used the whole harness

4. when its time for the tranny swap, is it possible to use the rs hubs (going with big brakes meant for the RS/WRX parking brake)

So...like an aftermarket big brake kit? Or the STI brembos?

5. if the year of the engine has auto HVAC on the wiring harness is it possible to leave it disconnected to be used sometime in the future?

6. since it's going into an 02, will the wrx hood work with the tmic?

It will work fine, but you can make improvements on it for sure.

7. I know the STi wheelbase is a hair different than the RS/WRX will this matter for aftermarket exhaust parts or for when I swap the 6sp, will the STi driveshaft be the right length?

Doesn't make much of a difference. Except I don't know how the RS exhaust is routed. But comparing to a WRX it's the same or it'll work.

just my .02

Good luck and do lotsa research!

I will be using the entire STi harness, so what connectors will be different from the 2 harnesses?

I will be using the wilwood 6 piston 12.9" in the front and the 4 piston 12.1" in the rear (needs to go over the 170mm parking brake) I will need to use DSS axle shafts to re-use the RS hubs (rear).

I will buy an FMIC kit before I do the swap (powder coated black for stealthness)

Thanks for the answers, it helps alot.

awsome! Sounds like a good plan. So if you're planning on using the entire STI harness you shouldn't have to worry about any connectors being different. The front/dash harness will plug right into the rear harness and work as-is. The radiator fan plugs will be different however and if you use the RS wiper motor you will need to "re-pin" the plug, but the plug is the same. I tried using it without repinning the plug and it burned out the wiper motor (just a little detail that can help).
