Default Stock Forester ECU or WRX ECU? POLL

Should I keep the ecu from my forester in my car and use a piggy back or should I tap everything in to run off of the WRX ecu? Or if you have another answer choose other and post your option.

99 US Forester L and putting in a 97 JDM WRX wagon motor. I will have to source another turbo as it was missing from the swap, but have engine harness and ecu which has a prova eiffel chip in it. So since I will probably not be getting a factory turbo I will need to have a tune anyway. Forester ECU seems to have a lot more control coming from the ecu then what the WRX ecu has. Hope this clears up some information for a more definite decision. Let me know if you need any more details. Don't have the motor yet so can't check to see motor code or ecu code, but assume 97 wrx wagon which means can't tune it with factory ecu.

When You say harness merger are you talking, merge the engine harness into the factory ecu? Which I know has to be done, its a matter of which ecu I should use. Both have to have a piggyback if used or replace both with a standalone which I'm guessing would have to be for the 97 wrx.

Also getting mixed info on what version the engine is for ecu pinout. Is it a V3 EJ20k or a V4, or is there no difference. I posted another thread which has the ecu pinouts, which you replied to also jaxx.

More info added, bump

You don't have a choice you would have to merge the harnesses. Your 99 forester ecu is phase 2. It will not run a 97 wrx engine. The cam triggers on the back of the cam gears are different.

If you have emissions in your state you are screwed, the 97 wrx egnine isn't obd2. Also don't even think of running a prova chipped ecu on 93.

Isn't there a way to switch the triggers on the cams our no? That is the one good thing, I don't have to deal with emissions. And I def won't run the prova chip, will replace J1 jumper to make it run stock map. Will that be good enough? Will also be using a front mount which I have heard will help my case on 93. Also have a smt8 piggy back in order to tune. Do you happen to know what turbo came on 97 wagon? Didn't chine with one.

No, there is no way to run it with a 99 usdm forester ecu

Stock EJ20G ecu tune is fine on 93. Front mount will help.

97 wrx wagon came with TD04.
