Default Subaru Lease Return...

If this thread isn't in the proper location, feel free to move it Mods.

I turned my 08 Impreza in a few months early because I was at the mileage limit and had already purchased another car. So instead of paying insurance on a vehicle I wasn't driving, I took it back to the dealer.

I was aware of the $300 disposition fee. I had a few dings and scratches, all of which were under $1000 luckily (the sales rep told me I had $1,500 in damage allowance but that's a different story). I was 24 miles over.

Including all the fees/payments left on the vehicle, the letter I got in the mail says I owe about $750. That's fine. What it didn't provide was a date it was due. So I called up Chase Auto Finance and the woman couldn't give me a definitive answer, only to say "payment is due upon reciept." OK, thanks, so if I don't pay it by the next business day I will incur late fees? It sounds like I have 30 days to pay it. But then she starts going off on how I should just pay it over the phone right now, for another $15 fee, so she can guarantee the payment is tracked properly. It was almost like she was using scare tactics and saying if I mailed in a check it wasn't going to be registered properly. Then she got mean saying it wasn't her fault when something happened. WTF?

I'd want to know what comprises the $750 that you owe, down to the dollar.

The $750 comes from:

disposition fee
remaining payments
some other minor fees

I'll call tonight and talk to someone who hopefully isn't hell bent on me paying over the phone. I bet they get some sort of commission for that.

Called back today and talked to the lovely Damitra who adjusted my final payment to include the $15 over the phone processing fee.

I guess it's all about who you talk to.

Question lease return

So I too am returning my 2008 2.5i Impreza 5-Door this week, actually. I have some scratches on the corners of my front bumper, is that something I should get buffed out and take care of? Or would that be covered under my 1000$ allotted damages? I also have a right side view mirror that may need replacement because it's a little cracked and the assembly inside only works when moving left to right but not up and down. Anyone know of a site I can order an OEM part for cheap or how much that might run me if I took it to the dealers?

Thanks

well each lease for each company is different. my parents lease with mercedes and they haven't had any problems. they just pay the disposition fees and are pretty much on their way.

this is my first lease and 6 months into it, my AC goes out and 2 more times after that so i'm def not going to lease to own on this one. it's just i've heard horror stories on lease returns and was wondering how strict subaru is [even though I know it all depends on the contract you sign].

I would totally agree. It depends on the car manufacturer. I am already on my 4th BMW lease. Never had any problems returning the previous 3 cars and in all cases, even the disposition fee was waived. Loyalty to a brand has it perks. My current lease was negotiated at 10K off sticker. I also got a nice BMW platinum visa card this time around
Regards,
Saif.

I've found subaru to be horrible with leasing returns. Surprisingly so even if you are returning for another subaru!

Based on my experience returning my '05 Legacy GT a few years ago, I'd say don't worry about them. I had bumper scratches, a pretty nasty (small diameter, but a deep/shap angle) door dent, and didn't pay anything extra.

Unless the crack is really obvious I wouldn't worry about it. As for the assembly not working properly, I highly doubt they will even check it based on what I saw. They just cranked my car up and listened to it idle for a few while he looked under the hood checking to make sure it was a real engine I guess... maybe he was looking at VIN markings to make sure I hadn't dropped a new motor in?

Mostly they seem to look for major damage, and worn tires.

Honestly my Legacy was the roughest looking car I'd had by time I turned it in, and I didn't pay anything extra...
