Yikes! Everytime I look at my scoob, I see another nick on the front bumper. I am so paranoid and careful with it but it seems to be so fragile. I've had a few cars in my day, a honda element, mazda miata x2... but this seems to be a delicate flower. I love it so much. You would think that a subaru, known for "snow" driving would be a little tougher and resilient. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I traded in my 06 Honda element which was in impeccable shape after 70k miles. As you might know, or maybe not, they have plastic quarter panels and I never got a chip/gouge in the paint.

Are my expectations just too high? A little rock bouncing off the bumper shouldn't put a nick in the paint of the bumper should it? Guess my scoob isn't going to be perfect. Maybe I am just being anal and should relax and just enjoy the car? I guess I never expected this as it's lower in the front. Eyes wide open now.

Anyone know what kind of bumper they put on the rally cars?

Way too late for that! And I'll be ordering one of the cheap eBay lips for some added protection. Lip plus 3m clear bra...I should be ok.

I won't worry about in now but may want to fix in the spring.

Does anyone recommend adding the subaru lip ~ would it cover a small crack? Does anyone recommend an aftermarket bumper?
Oh I beat you! 400 miles and 6 days of ownership, scraped my '12s front bumper on friend's very steep driveway last night. Same crack in same place. Tried to use epoxy but scraped it on the way back also which I think broke the bond again.

The Subaru lip and the clear bra are way to expensive!

I ordered a JNA lip this weekend to hopefully prevent cracking my '12 bumper.

It is a bit ridiculous that a "tough rally car" cracks it's bumper with minimal contact to anything.

I was thinking about a spray on solution for the inside of the bumper like a spray on bedliner type product. Does anyone have any recommendations? It should be easy to work with since ill be doing this with the bumper on. It should also be rugged and layer on itself well. I had rhino in my s10. That stuff rules!

Ooh, that's a good idea. It might not completely prevent cracking, but if done right it look like a lip without lowing clearance or flatening the contour of the bumper. I think I'm going to look into this...

If you're on Twitter, go ahead and retweet my message to Subaru USA. If enough people do this, maybe we can finally get an answer from them..

Just paste this into your Twitter:
@subaru_usa What's the deal with the fragile bumpers on the new WRX? How can we prevent them from instantly cracking? http://t.co/QLSiWE8U

Add me to the list of cracked bumpers... Driving home from work, a sheet of ice came off a semi, I braked and it hit the bumper rather than the hood (thats a good thing)... left the typical 2" crack on the passenger side... Just made my first payment....I'm beginning to reconsider if the car is worth $28K with all the cheaply made stuff... Orange peal paint, cheap radio, rattling doors, flimsey bumpers, loose gearbox... I know this isn't a rant thread, and I do like the car... come on subaru put a little more attention into things...

Feel the same, I think I should of went with the new 2012 MINI Cooper S I looked at or the spent the extra for the 2012 Mustang 5.0. I just get the feeling like this car was slapped together to make a sale and not well thought out. For almost $30k, it should have been built way better then it is.

If you smack the front bumper on any car, it's gonna get messed up in some way. Just gotta be careful with steep bumps/driveways/curbs. I haven't had any issue with mine but then again I haven't whacked my bumper on anything

our cars are faster than anything in the price range, have awd, are safe according to the govt, and look pretty sweet. There are always caveats...at least we dont have ford-level resale rape, nor are our cars FWD.

that's because it's NOT a "tough, rally car". It's a passenger econobox with a souped up motor and maybe slightly above average suspension (but not by much).
