Default Subie Gal gets mentioned in Autoweek

This week's Autoweek (July 8) has an article about the Pike's Peak Hillclimb, complete with a couple of pictures Lovell & Turvey's ProRalley class-winning Subaru, plus mentions Jamie "Subie Gal" Thomas! They've always given good coverage to the Hillclimb, and the article goes out of it's way to talk about ProRally, SCCA and Subaru's involvement.

Cool Subaru in Autoweek

Wonder if the fact that the photographer owns a WRX and the writer has been hogging the company WRX had anything to do with that?

Default Apples and Oranges...

Subie Gal on the radar at the Picnic Grounds 43.5 mph, my brother Paul, 118.3 mph. But as the above title says, we're comparing apples and oranges. If only he had finished, if only his crew wasn't so adept at cranial rectal inversion, if only, if only...

Regardless, well done Jamie.

Mark

PS. Tanner Foust (my brother's team mate) in only his first foray up the hill gets 3rd in Open Class. Too cool!

Question Horsepower or late braking

Mark,

I noticed those times as well. So, was it horsepower or late breaking? Getting through Engineers is pretty important as well to getting that top speed through the Picnic Grounds. Tanner and Paul both looked very impressive for rookies. Who won "Rookie of the Year" anyway?

Jamie,

I bet you didn't lift through that left hander at the end of the Picnic Grounds!

Clearly Pikes Peak has unrealized potential, it is not unconceivable for it to one day be regarded as the greatest motorsports event in the world. Its competitors believe that now.

That is why Subaru Hired Jamie "Subie Gal" Thomas to run a Japanese-spec, all-wheel-drive, supercharged 660 cc Subaru Pleo to the top.
Jamie -

You got mentioned in the same article as Mark Lovell, Steve Turvey, Paul Choniere, Ramana Lageman, Per Eklund, Stig Blomqvist and other lesser known folks such as Clint Vahsholtz, Jimmy Keeney, and David Donner...

Too bad they didn't run any pictures of you or your "Pleo". Whats a "Pleo" ? Some sort of "Monster Microcar" ?

Very impressive !!!

[EDIT] Read your thread on the "flying toaster" elsewhere in the motorsports section. Cute Little Kiddie car, but I doubt its got much more than 60-70 BHP. Hopefully it didnt feel too tippy...

"LEFT foot down... the pedals are in the same position...
same shift pattern..."

Wait. Did I miss something? Same position.... I assume you were on the gas the whole time, not the brake, right? (It's a race UP the hill, isn't it??) So right would be right, wouldn't it be? Or is left right? Or left wrong? Wait....

Oh! You mean....oh, forget it.

I used to drive a '72 Peugot that had turn indicators on one side and other things on the other and everything was backward, ignition on the left, pedals every which way, but the best thing about it was that it was a manual transmission with the shifter on the steering column. That was cool. Nobody could figure it out but me. If someone tried to steal that car, they'd put it in drive and not go anywhere. How often do you see a manual shift on the steering column?

I loved that car....

Oh, well. Neither here nor there. Congrats, Jamie. Looking forward to seeing the article.

i started rallying/rallycrossing etc. in 1999....
this is my rookie year in the SCCA Pro Rally Series...

i started the web site Aug of 2000....
and have been promoting the race team as much as i can.

erm.. well.. things have sort of progressed from there.
it's hard work.. takes a lot of time, devotion, dedication...

but when it's your passion?
come on! it's all good!!

I really enjoy Subaru, rally, the people... all of it...
and if occasionally i get rewarded with something neat
like a drive in the Pleo, a spot on the news... some press
in a magazine... well hell.. that's just a big fat bowl of cherries to me!!! I take nothing for granted... and i love what i'm doing

cheers!
