Talking Hmm, well, I *lost* to my brother in a BMW, today...

Heh, just figured I'd drop by and admit my shame!

My brother, his girlfriend, and our Mom and I went to see "MIB II" today (it sucked). On the way there, on Rt. 22 in between Longs and North Myrtle Beach, SC, my bro and I decided to step on it for a few hundred yards. Mom with me in the RS, and my brother driving his girlfriend's early-'90s BMW 3-something.

Well, first off I forgot to turn the A/C off fast enough, secondly I probably should've downshifted to 3rd, not 4th..... Either way, he beat me. We started racing at like 60mph though, and everyone knows the RS doesn't have squat, on the highway.

So.... bah. One day I'll get a nice Cobb setup and have some better highway oomph, I hope.

Just thought I'd share. Heh...

Well it really depends on the year bimmer you were racing. The 90-93 model 325s had 168 horsepower. And the 94-95 models 325s had 189 horsepower. Of course the 189 horsepower models should beat you. If it was an 318 model, the 90-93 models had 134 horsepower.

From a roll they should beat you fairly easily. They are about the same weight as your car as well. Maybe if you stopped that granny-shifting and started double-clutching like you should, you might have won.

Siper, almost had him? Almost had him? Ha, you never even had your car! Now get some NAWZ and shuddup!

And yes, double clutching, although it takes 5x more precious seconds to do it, somehow makes the car SUPAR fast. Well, thats what TFATF said.

You need a bottle of NOS, no, make that TWO bottles of NOS. And you need them by tonight! Cause your car topped out at 140.. that's why.

Don't worry... Subaru turned it off for you.. anything above 80% of the throttle and the AC goes into free-spool.

Haha, I raced my friend's turbo Eclipse last night, and beat him.. and then looked down to see my A/C was on.. then I REALLY felt good when my car with the A/C on smacked down on a turbo eclipse with equal mods. So that explains why I still won. =)

Yeah well, you're in a WRX, and I'm in a stock RS. A/C gadgetry or no, I'll still lose to an I-6 Bimmer.

Leo! Shmuck. Yeah I remember the Fajardo incident, that was pretty funny. I won't stop drivin' so much though, hell between June 23 and today I put like 4,128 miles on my car.
Life's good, man.

Turbo? Nah, don't think I'll go that route, with my car. N/A I think.
I'd like to do like a Cobb Stage 2 kind of deal, I guess. Someday...

As for the BMW, Diversion, it's an mid-'90s 325. Doesn't matter much anyway though, we all know the stock EJ25 runs out of juice on the highway.

Default stock RS

indeed, STOCK RS are slow on the highway. i think all imprezas are. even the WRX.

for some reason, my car picks up like crazy on the highway. i have Rallispec fast road cams, apex n1 cat-back exhaust, injen race division intake, unorthodox racing pulleys, and magnecore wires.

my bro has a 97' nissan 240sx. we came back from a little meet and we were going about 50 mph. he was behind me, he downshifted to 3rd and zoomed past me. once his back bumper was past my front bumper i downshifted to 3rd. his car still pulled away, and all of a sudden it stopped pulling away. there was a car infront of me and i changed into my bros lane and got right on his tail. once i passed the one car in front of me i cut that car off, i passed my bro. my bros car has an injen intake. 240sx arent slow on highway either. my bro said "damn, ur car is fast". i dunno, i have to try racing a beemer it seems like.

Ehhm, just a hunch, but I think that's why.

You have quite a few mods in there man, for you to say "for some reason" sounds awfully funny, after you obviously spent the money on those mods so you WOULD go faster.

All of those mods, excepting probably the wires, contribute to better highway speed, I'm sure.

just that people believe rs's are slow even when modded. so, for some "unknown" reason, my car goes fast. cuz my car is slow with mods anyway right? shows wut they know.

Talking

True....true.

Tell me, where did you get your Cobb mods done? Did you drive down there or have somebody do it, or.....?

I ask because someday I'd like to do a Cobb Stage 2 (N/A) kind of a deal, and I'm wondering how to go about it.

Of course, by then I'm sure I'd have it all planned out, but it's fun to ask.

Default to the guy talking about bmw's

Actually, the 1993 model bmw 325 i, which I currently own along with a wrx , has 189 bhp. And if the bimmer is auto, forget it. I lost so many races its not even funny, just because I had auto. A 78 pinto would have beaten my bimmer, as long as it was a stick. GO MANUALS> LONG LIVE THE WRX!!!!!!!!

AzN-

Cool. But about the cams, nah I'd go to Cobb anyway. Not that I distrust Rallispec in the least, but I didn't ever even consider them for cam work.

ac-

Yeah my Mom's about as cool as they come. While most mothers are busy doing the typical thing, we were brought up strictly but liberally, raised on sci-fi while watching dinner. Heh...
As much of a best friend as a mother, and it really weirds people out. Which of course weirds ME out, at least in the respect that I feel bad for people who can't have relationships like that with their parents.

I hope that my fiancée can be the same with our kids someday.
All one can do is cross their fingers. At least I know she likes rally racing and Subaru, though. That's a start.
