Exclamation 2008 Impreza Sticky Throttle

My Mom just got a very standard 2008 Impreza Sedan with 5 speed Manual and 20k miles on it.

I noticed when I drive the car that the throttle seems to stick for roughly 2 seconds after I let off the gas pedal completely weather its in gear or not.

So when I go to shift into the next gear, the RPMs will be hanging and I know its just eating up the clutch disc when I engage it back.

Sometimes with the clutch disengaged and me just coasting, it will idle up to about 2000 RPM!!!

I know for a fact this is not right and I'm an 80s Toyota guy so I'm looking for expert advice on this matter.

She thinks I'm crazy and wont take it in to the Dealer.

Thanks in advance.

No replies yet? Abnormal compared to the other forums I frequent.

The flare in between shifting is normal. They keep the throttle open for emissions reasons. It's annoying but you get used to it. Not sure about the 2k while costing. Does it just stay at 2k RPM? Or does it go down to a normal idle then back up?

It did it a few times only. Perhaps my foot was touching the throttle slightly.

What a stupid design IMO.
It's a good way for them to make money on replacing clutches on the otherhand.

I know I'll never own one for that reason.

I believe there's an ecu reflash/patch for that.

It's a good way for them to keep the converter working the way it needs to so they meet emissions. If you are driving normally just slow down the shift by a half second, let out the clutch a little faster and it will be fine. If you're driving aggressively then it doesn't matter. The clutch would be engaging at a higher RPM anyway.
